The following feature article about Zornes will help local residents become better acquainted with their friend and neighbor." ist Milford Zornes of Mt. Car. mel arrived home for Christmas after a three months lecture and teaching tour which has taken him throughout the United States, from Massachusetts to California, and including sessions in Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Arizona. The tour began with a two weeks assignment for Painting Holidays, working with a group of artists In the colorful Old mining towns of Georgetown, Silver Plume and St. Elmo, In the Colorado Rockies. While In Oklahoma, he taught for a month at the Oklahoma Science and Arts Foundation, with weekend lectures at Boston, Mass., LitUe Rock, Arkansas, and Nacogdoches, Texas. Later, he moved to Dallas, Houston and Corpus Chrlstl, and west to California, ending the tour with a weeks session for the Arizona Watercolor Society in Phoenix. Zornes teaches the basic principles of design and structure of painting with emphasis on landscape design. 91s specialty Is watercolor technique and he is in demand for lecture programs wherein he paints a watercolor for an audience and speaks about painting. He says that while he has some strong competitors in this special field is a popular activity because there is such a strong interest in painting throughout the country. Local art associations and societies make art training possible for their members by bringing outstanding painters to their area for workshop programs, Zornes has bookings for his programs extending a year In advance. He will be going to Colima, Mexico, for the University of Oklahoma in February and March, and also the first two weeks of June. He will do a demonstration-lectur- e for the American Watorcdlor Society at the National Academy of DeIt sign In New York on April 8, 1973. He says that of all his activities he enjoys the classes at home best. People come from various parts of the United States to work with him here. It is anticipated that an artist from Denmark will be enrolled for one of his summer classes. Zornes says that his reasons for settling in the southern Utah area were, fo area were, first of all, the studio and home built by the late Maynard Dixon, a noted western painter, at Mt, Carmel, so attracted him by its dramatic location In Long Valley that he bought it eleven years ago to use as a summer home and studio. With southern California losing its charm because of smog and traffic and high taxes, the Zornes decided to make their home In Utah, and they say that they have never reThe gretted their decision. At present, Zornes is preparing two exhibitions, one for Kaysville, Utah, and the other for the Las Vegas Art League, both to be held In January.
