Rock, Western, Swing, Jazz, Hill Billy, Classic. In the right place, at the right time and at the proper volume I like them all. I can remember when I thought a violin was a polished chunk of wood, shaped and wired to produce squeaks and other strange noises. Today I look forward with anticipation to hearing twenty-fiv- e or thirty of them squeakin unison when the Utah ing Symphony comes to town April 29. The youngsters will hear it at school. I hope every adult in the county and northern Arizona will take advantage of the opportunity to hear it in the evening. Every person should at least once sit in the same room with a symphony orchestra and hear and feel those hundred or more instruments play. No record player, tape machine or amplifier can fully duplicate that experience. Perhaps you do not consider yourself a lover of classic music. I do not suggest that one evening with the Utah Symphony will make a lover out of you. But I do believe that one evening vith the Symphony will be an experience you will long remember. Lets all arrange sitters for the kids, put on our best bib and tucker (seriously, lets doll up) and attend the Utah Symphony, April 29. Here is my nearty thanks to the Choralettes and others for undertaking the big job of sponsoring such a special evening for s. Mrs. Penny took the drama class to the region eight drama meet at Cedar City. They really did a great job. Here are the results: The play goes to state in second place. Cindy Hopfer got best actress in region. Lorin Henderson gets to go to state with his pantomime. Roberta Keller is an alternate to state. John Franklin got an excellent and Tina Mulli-ne- r got a good. So you can see they are really doing great. PUBLIC NOTICE NOTICE OF REPUBLICAN PARTY COUNTY CONVENTION Notice is hereby given that the County Conventions of the Republican party for Kane County will be held at Kane County Court House in Kanab, at 2:00 oclock p.m. on Saturday the 1st day of May, 1971. Delegates to such County Convention shall be the same persons who were delegates to the Kane County primary convention, which was held last year. I S. Thomas Lawson I Kane County Republican Chairman ... I listened, motionless and still; And, as I mounted up the hill, The music in my heart I bore, Long after it was heard no more n Kanab High Schools track team is doing quite well. It makes one wonder how well KHS might be represented if it had two track men, or three, or a one-ma- dozen. Kenny Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Brown is the sole mem-b- e of Kanabs track and field team, and when this team left the Dixie Invitational a week ago after having competed in as many events as it was allowed, it was in sixth place. Which aint n show. bad for a In the class B competition at the meet Kenny took fourth place in the 220 yard dash; then he snared a first place in the 100 yard dash and another first place in the long jump. Kenny does well in the high jump and pole vault, and had be been allowed to enter more events he might have won the whole thing by himone-ma- self. Kcr.ny and Coach Hafen will be traveling to Provo this weekend where Kenny will enter the BYU Invitational All Around event, a aft grueling two-dafair which really tests an athletes mettle. We 'ish him good luck. I still cant understand why we dont have several on a track and field team. I understand there are only ten or eleven cn the baseball team . . . and with one on the track team, thats 12 . . . wheres the rest of the high school? I dont think theres a nine-even- tennis or golf team at all. Looks like these other guys would want to be on the track team and enjoy the participation. Used to be that we could enjoy a track meet now and again, but if it were not for Jim Ott and his program with the elementary to see boys, wed hardly get line . . . this anything along wheres our spirit? Better get those cute cheer leaders and other cuties after the boys maybe. It is pretty hard to tell what does bring happiness; poverty and wealth have both failed. While Im getting after the high school, I should mention: It was brought to my attention that last KH has had year and this year no representation at the Model U. N. program in Salt Lake City, how cum? The person bringing this to my attention and many others feel that where we are so far removed from the large population centers that an opportunity like this for our youngsters is very important. The Model UN is meeting this weekend in Salt Lake City. The keynote speaker is the Honorable Edwin Ogbu, permanent Nigerian representative to the UN, and this along with the other activities engaged seem to indicate a valuable experience. Maybe some of the former Model UN attenders from here can enlighten us as to why or why not it is a good experience . . . any takers? No man who is in a hurry is Will Durant quite civilized An interesting sidelight to the Meet Your Officials Dinner in Kanab Saturday, was that one of the guests, Sherman Preece, State Auditor, was on his honeymoon, more or less. Mr. and Mrs. Preece have been married three weeks. Both of them had been previously married and their spouse had passed away. They each have three children. Mrs. Preece has been living in Arizona and they were going there, rather leisurely, to visit her ft tends and daughter and to clear up her affairs prior to settling in Salt Lake City. They are a very charming and gracious couple. It was a pleasure for Mrs. and myself to sit at the table with Mrs. Preece. She was very complimentary of the people here and the beautiful area. THE ROVING REPORTER SEZ by - E. G. KIRBY This week (or what's left of it) is NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK. The Kanab Elementary Sixth Graders have made some interesting posters which have been put in various business houses. They proclaim the motto: "You've got a right to read Don't blow it." tl's also AMNESTY week at the KSnab which means that you can bring back all delinquent books without suffering a fine. You won't have to be embarrassed by handing them to the librarian either. You can just drop them in the book drop outside the library doors and. all will be forgiven. Better yet just breeze on in and see the many signs of renovation going on in the library. There's evidence of a new lowered ceiling being installed, new mag-agin- e racks, new sofa and chairs,- - and a lot of new books and magazines. This is a joint effort of the city and the school. Just in case you don't know who is responsible for our library at the present time; here are their names. Leah Jack-so- n is president of the library board. Laura Chamberlain is the city council member and representative; Phyllis Judd is secretary and Donna Beard and the author of this are members. Virginia Parkes and Allen C. Williams are librarians.
