The beautiful storm has added the final touch and it looks as if we will have a white Christmas this year. Best Christmas wishes to everyone. Christmas week got off to a good start with the excellent program presented in Sunday School Sunday morning. In the evening the Relief Society Singing Mothers presented a special program in which they performed special Christmas music they have been learning for some time. Carol Lamb, Arvilia Heaton and Lois Lamb were narrators for the program and the members of the Bishopric spoke about the true spirit of Christmas. It was an outstanding performance and contributed greatly to the Christmas season In the high school the students greeted the holiday with a special Chrismtas party Wednesday afternoon. There was a movie, fun and games and refreshments to provide fun for everyone. The Valley Elementary started off their vacation with parties in each class. The students exchanged gifts, sang carols and played games for a afternoon. Saturday night in the Valley High gym the senior class will sponsor a Sock Spree dance that promises lots of fun for all those who attend. The Valley High Basketball team, after reluctantly bowing to Kanab at the game in Kanab Saturday night, hopes to bounce back by winning a series of away games during the holidays. They will travel away from home to play Enterprise on the 23rd, San Juan on the 28th, Monticello on the 29th and Moab on the 30th. We wish them good luck in all these games. earnest fun-pack- I ' v ' Christmas Walk" Saturday December 19 the Kanab Ladies Literary League held their first annual Christmas Walk with about 40 ladies enjoying the afternoon. It turned out to be even more enchanting with the beautiful snow flakes falling. The Walk began at the home of Adonis Robinson where the annual gift exchange was enjoyed Next stop was at the home of Connie Sundwall. Her tree was unique with all decorations being small childrens toys. At Juanita Aikens the ladies add mired the exquisite backed by a yarn nativity scene, Christmas tree. At Mrs. Aikens home Mrs. Blanche Mace gave a humorous reading. hand-crafte- At Jean Glaziers they were awed by two elaborate trees. The next stop was at LeOna Swallows where the ladies enjoyed contemporary decorations, with a red, pink and white tree in her daughters room being a highlight. Civic Women's Club Kanab News Notes and Mrs. Tom Major of Panguitch and Mr. and Mrs. Farnsworth of Panguitch were here for Del Mont McAllisters funeral. Mr. ?( V s i enjoys annual Christmas party The annual Christinas party of the Kanab Womens Civic Club was held December 18 at the home of Mrs. Elna Morrill. Hostesses for the evening were Elna Morrill, Clyde Vance, Mildred Keller and A.deth Holland. A lovely luncheon was served to 14 members and one guest. Mrs. Carol Penney was in charge of entertainment and prizes were won by June Williams, Roma MacDonald, Mildred Keller, Iris Masterson, Nell Jones and Hortense Gardner. Next meeting of the group will be held January 25. Anyone interested in joining the club may contact Nell Jones, Muriel Swapp or Carol Penney. Of cakes and pies and cookies to bake, and candies in scrumptious array of turkeys to roast and cranberry salad to make. Of joyous Christmas dinner with family of the ringing of gathered around children's voices as they play in innocent delight. Of all these memories and many more we happily contemplate. And though we would linger longer, time beckons us back to the present. So . . . allow us to wish you the very merriest of Christmases. Kelly Wednesday night the Kanab American Legion Post 69 met at the Legion Hut. During the business part ot the evening plans were made for the annual New Years Eve breakfast. Also plans were made for participation in the July 4th Sand Dunes Buggy Race Meet. A good amount of new young blood in the form of Vietnam also kids that have served our country in all parts of the world, is now surging through the Legion viens. They have added impetus with their enthusiasm and the Kanab Post should go forward with new projects to help this area. Dont forget the New Years Eve breakfast. Help get the new Legion off to a good start. Kanab news notes, Mr. and Mrs. Norman McAllis- ter and family were in Kanab to attend the funeral services for his Uncle, DelMont McAllister. American Legion starts 'Tony Chatterley Fund' Kanab American Legion Post sponsoring a Tony Chatter-le- y Fund, and have donation bottles placed around the area. Purpose of the fund is to raise money to send Tonys parents, Cloyd and Gloria to the hospital which Tony will be in when he returns to the states. Anyone desiring to make direct donations to the Legion may send them to the Kanab American Legion, Post 69, Kanab, Utah. Word was received by the SUNews Tuesday from Gloria Chatterley that Tony is being transferred to Denver, Colo. For those who desire to drop him a note, his address is: Anthony Chatterley Fitzsimons Veterans Hospital Denver, Colo. 80225 69 is Funeral services December 21st honor DelMont McAllister Pipe Spring will be closed for Christmas & New Year Acting Geneal Superintendent Bill R. Alford has announced that Pipe Spring National Monument will be closed on the two holidays, Christmas and New Years Day. The area is otherwise open from 8 a m. to 5 p.m. daily and visitors are welcome to leisurely tour this historic Mormon Fort and its surrounding grounds. Monument personnel are on duty to assist visitors by providing tours of the Fort. The area exhibits a living setting of the pioneer period 1870 to 1890. We will give a year's subscription to the person 24, CHRISTMAS MEMORIES The walk continued on to Theresa Owens home, highlighted by Mexican decor, and then across town to Beth Pughs to view the early American Christmas atmosphere. Ramona Johnson shared her elaborate traditional tree and the ladies were thrilled with the outdoor nativity scene on her lawn. were Delicious refreshments served at each home and each lady present left filled with a wonderful feeling of love and friendship. The committee in charge of the activity were June Long, Connie Sundwall, Paula Armstrong and Tuanita Aiken. December Ben Picklesimer, manager of the Buckskin Tavern, was winner of the pistol given away by the Kanab Booster Club, with the drawing held at halftime of the Valley-Kana- b basketball game last Saturday. Special recognition awards for outstanding service in behalf of the Boosters Club were also made at that time by Booster President Jim Carrico. Receiving the recognition were Bob and Emma Houston, Ted Atherley, and Bob and Maureen Ramsay. funeral services Impressive were conducted in Kanab Monday, December 21 in memory of DelMont Johnny McAllister, 48, who died last Friday, December 18. DelMont was born in Kanab on January 25, 1922, a son of J. W. and Lillian Chamberlain McAllister. He was educated in the Kanab schools and graduated from Kanab High School. He attended one year of college at the Utah State University in Logan. He married Athene Farnsworth, October 19, 1946. They had three children. Mr. McAllister was active in promoting the local area, helping to organize a movie extras guild, and was the first secretary of Kanab Movieland, Inc. He assisted in getting Little League Baseball facilities started in Kanab and participated in most like community efforts for the youth. He helped form the first Kanab Fire Department, which is now reputed as one of the best volunteer departments in the state. He served in the scouting programs in Kanab as assistant scoutmaster, and was himself an Eagle Scout. He also served in the Army during World War II, filling duty in Ergland, France, and the Phillipines. Johnny was noted for his excellent skill as a leather worker. For several years he maintained a business in Kanab of shoe repair, and making belts, moccasins bridles. He worked at many trades, being a carpenter, service station worker, leather worker, farmer, rancher, and at the time of his death was the local watermaster. He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. He is survived by his widow; a son, Mack Dell, Kanab; two daughters Mr. Jerry (Susan) Glover, Tuba City, Ariz., and Peggy Lee, Kanab; one grandchild: father, Kanab; and one brother, Lloyd, of Kanab. Services were conducted by Bishop Wayne Robinson as fol- $4.00 Single Copy per year Valley Lions award prizes for best Christmas decorations by Betty Sorensen in the Christmas Home Decoration contest sponsored by the Coral Sands Lions Club is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Crofts of Orderville, according to Norman Carroll, chairman of the contest committee. Second place honors go to Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Hoyt of Orderville and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Goulding of Glendale Wn third prize. The three top winners will receive cash prizes. Special honorable mentions goes to Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Griffiths and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Caruso, all of Orderville. The contest was open to anyone in the Valley area and a large number of homes were decorated for the event. The Lions Club wishes to express appreciation to everyone who entered. The lights and decorations add greatly to the festive spirit of the Christmas season. Everyone who decorated is a winner because each added to the beauty of his own home and to the enjoyment of others. The Coral Sands Lions Club also expresses appreciation to the Kanab Lions Club for furnishing judges for this event. First prize winner Irrigation Company elects new Board of Directors Kanab Irrigation Company held their annual stockholders meeting on December 14 with a small representation present. The old board of directors was to serve another term, with one new one being elected: Norris Brown was elected to replace Orvil Robinson. The direc-or- s will now meet to elect officers. Burial was at the Kanab City Cemetery where the deceased was honored with a military ceremony by the Kanab American Legion, and the grave was dedicated by Ronald Stewart. ?
