BORDER STORE LIQUORS WINE BEER Three Miles South of Kanab on Highway 89-- Groceries Saddlery Sporting Goods Indian Rugs and Jewelry Frank and Helen Banks Breaks-Panguitc- A contract has been awarded to the Manley Company, Inc , of Elko, Nev., for $298,000 to reconstruct 4 2 miles of the Cedar Breaks - Panguitch Lake road, announced Alvin F. Wright, Forest Supervisor, Dixie National Owners, Managers Lake road h special effort has gone into the design plans to provide for enhancing the esthetic and to provide overlook areas without disturbing the natural beauty of the area. The other two sections to be constructed will be programmed as promptly as finances can be obtained and logical construction scheduling will allow. Wright said this road is important to the local economy and greater use and development of the National Forest resources. The road will provide a shorter link between Cedar Breaks National Monument and Panguitch Lake. It will provide improved access for timber harvest, recreation, tracking livestock, and fire control. When the total project is completed, the road will provide travelers with one of the outstanding scenic drives in Southern Utah, particularly when the aspen trees turn color in the fall season, said Wright. MEMBER Entered as December SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS, Kanab, Utah 1969 This project is the first of three sections to be reconstructed as a joint effort between Garfield and Iron Counties and the United States Forest Service. The Forest Service has agreed to conroadbed with struct a double-lan- e a gravel base surface, after which the counties will assume maintenance and final surfacing. The new construction will follow, generally, the alignment of the present road between Cedar Breaks National Monument and Panguitch Lake. The road has been placed on the Federal aid secondary road system. The total development of this road by both counties and the Forest Service will include reconstruction of approximately 13 miles of road at a cost in excess of one million dollars. The design plans have essentially been completed for the entire project distance. Bobby Reed Swapp from Ft. Lewis for his first leave since entering the army; Cindy and Brent Burdick from Provo since Christmas Day until after New Years; Gail Brown and boys came up to visit for a few days, after Chad and ReNee Cram spent a day or two in Las Vegas with them. The Swapps daughter, Jenny will return to Las Vegas with Gail to spend a few days with Linda Mognett who works there. Mrs. Luella Crosby left Friday to spend soma time with her dauhter in Tempe, Ariz. Mr. and Mrs. Kendall Crosby were recent visitors to Kanab and Fredonia with relatives, Mrs. Luella Crosby in Kanab and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rider in Fredonia. Many of the kids were home for the holidays. Among them were: Shanna Hamblin, Gary Bayles, Linda Crosby, Mickey Shields, Paula Smith, the George Kellys, Roger Smith and wife, Greg Honey, Dean Henderson, Roger Cutler, Brent Fox, Maggie and Ed Browning, Pat Lewis, Tony Wright, Nick and Yvonne Wright, Faul and David Swapp and families; Anna Lu Reese and family; Sam Carpenter; Diana and Keith McAllister; Paula and Ken Adams and new baby daughter; Dixon and Launa Spendlove; and two sons, a new baby born Dec. 20, Bain and Jessolyn Swapp; Dick Haycock and family; Steve and Diane Hansen; Joy and Roger Jameson and Rogers1 girl friend, Bonnie; Debbie Thorn-- ( ton and sister Darlene; Kent Hugh and probably others. really like to thank Big Barcn for our Christmas party and week off. Mrs. Curtis is the former Keala Hepworth.Don Hepworth accompanied the Curtiss to Las Vegas to visit. Mr. and Mrs. Ammon Johnson spent a few days in Las Vegas visiting. At the Willard Esplins for the holidays are Gayle Esplin from her teaching at Blanding and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Esplin from Logan. From their employment in Salt Lake City and spending some of the holidays here were Jacque and Claudia Sorensen, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Burke Sorensen, Collee': Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaNard Johnson, Lynn Chamberlain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arel Chamberlain, Cheryl Adair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Webster Adair. Home at the Rolland Chamberlains were their three sons, J. R. from Salt Lake, Boyd and Ver-De- ll from Cedar City. Here for Christmas at the Clyde Taits were Mr. and Mrs. Terry Tait and daughter from Bountiful; Bobby Tait from Bountiful; Mr. and Mrs. Lane Tait and children of St. George. Candy Savage was also a visitor at the Tait home. At the Reo Heaton home were Gary Lee Heaton and friend; Russel Heaton from the BYU; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Heaton and daughter from California. The Heatons spent a few days in Provo. Mr. and Mrs. B H. Sorensen of St. George spent Christmas here. At the J. E. Crofts home have been Mr. and Mrs. DeRay Pugh and children from Kaysville; the Charles Hart family from New Castle; The DeMoin Sorensens from Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Pari Galloway and son went to Vernal to visit with Parls folks. The MIA Program held Tuesday night honoring past presidents from Glendale and Order-vill- e was a highlight of the Christmas season here. The Melody Misses, under the direction of Mrs. Lorene C. Lamb, presented an outstanding musical program. The Primary Christmas program held Wedneday was enjoyed by all and the children really got a thrill when Santa appeared. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Lamb of Cedar City visited at the Farel Lamb home. Osmer Lamb is hospitalized and EAR FROM ORDERVILLE we wish him a speedy recovery. The Jim Haws family spent Christmas in Wayne County with Mrs. Haws folks. Mr. and Mrs. Kyran Sorensen and son of Page, Ariz., visited with the Elbern Sorensens. The Leon Coxs of Santaquin visited at the A. B. Levangers and with the Dill Hoyts in Alton. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Christiansen and son are spending the Christmas holidays with their parents the Mel Christiansens. At the Horace Burrows are Mr. and Mrs. A1 Zysltra of Tooele and Cashe Burrows from Salt Lake City. Charlene Smith and Mary Lee Baird went to Bountiful to visit for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Esplin, Mrs. LaNard E. Johnson, and daughters, Mrs. LaNard Johnson and Collene Johnson visited in Fredonia Christmas Day. Mr. ard Mrs. Perry Lamb visited in Kanab Christmas Day. Mr. and Mrs. Joel White and family, and Mrs. May Heaton visited the Perry Lamb home Saturday afternoon. Dave Heaton is home from the hospital and improving. Rosemary Heaton came from Provo to visit her parents, the LaMond Heatons. Denise Hepworth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hepworth, who is employed in Salt Lake City, is home for a day or two. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Young and family came Sunday from their home in Sandy to visit with the Orson Youngs and Elbern Sorensens. The Community Deveopment Committee are cleaning up the cemetery, getting it ready to plant lawn. Congratulations to you ambitious people who are putting in so much time to beautify our cemetery. The Laurence Reeses had a fire Sunday night It burned a store room and shed. From my place it looked like their home and I was real thankful when I found that it wasnt. The Mike Robinsons of Kanab visited at the Richard Esplins on Christmas Day.
