One of the highlights of the yeef fn Kanab, the Annual Race Meet has been set for May 21 and 22nd and workers are going ahead full steam to see that the event Is successful again this year. meet of the season, under State , Kanab holds the first race Racing regulations, each year, with the Kanab Lions club taking over promotion this year. Dr. Richard Riley Is chairman of the meet, and together with other club members have spent many hours thus far in preparation for the two big days. The track and other facilities are being put into top shape and new bleachers are being built and will be redy to help accommodate the large crowds expected. Parade Both Days Parade will be featured, both days of the meet and will start at 1 p.m. each day. Fridays par. ade will feature Queen candidates on floats. A western type parade will highlight the second day, Saturday. Merchants and others are encouraged to build and enter floats. Prizes will be given for several categories.- The American Legion color guard will lead the parade both days. All riding and roping clubs throughout - Utah and Arizona are invited to participate. Sylvan Johnson with 4 on the track and 3 in the Judges stand will handle the Judging of each race. Blake Robinson will announce the races and Duff Pugh In between. R. V. Kanab Lions wilt handle the clean up with police, fire, ambulance and medical assistance coming from other Individuals to be named. 03Y:rn:r n:r.?l:n Will Viiil 0:r Area Governor Calvin Rampton and g party of nine other state dignitaries will be in Kanab Saturday between 1 and 3 p.m. for a luncheon with Democratic party leaders. The Governor and his party will be honored Friday evening at the Wahweep Lodge near Lake Powell by the Kane County commission, William J. Smirl, Merle V. Adams, Kanab Chamber of Commerce, Bureau of Reclamation and the Parks and Recreation Committee. Saturday morning the groups will tour Warm Creek and the proposed road, inspect the site that has been selected for the coal generation plant, and pos- several townsites then slbly tour the dam at Glen Canyon, Then on to Kanab for the after- noon luncheon. All five of the men named for the Important Job are experienced in this line of work and have done much to promote the state and their communities. Mr. Smirl, who Just completed 8 years as a member of the State Road Commission, Is a native of Boise, Idaho. He has lived in Kane County since 1928 and has been a long time Operator of the Smirl-Altocoal mine near Alton. He sold the mine several year ago to the Nevada Power Co., and is now employed by them as a consultant on core drilling for coal and water. He Is a past president of the Kanab Lions Gub, was a Kane County Commissioner . far 4 years and has served several years as a director of the Kanab Chamber of Commerce.
