Kanab Residents Pay Small Amount of Property Taxes Needed for Schools Residents of Kanab would have to pay an additional poperty tax of 85.68 mills ($85.68 per $1,000 assessed valuation) if the amount af aid provided to local units of government during 1960 had been raised by a local property tax. districts, 29 counties, and 206 cities and towns during the 1960 fiscal of this total aid year. Nearly 90 went to local school districts, with cities and towns getting 5.6 and counties 4.5 of the total. state -- This, fact was outlined in a research report on state aid in Utah iu$th9Qmpleted by Utah Foundation, the private, nonprofit tax research organization. According to the Foundation study, state aid t0 the Kane School District last year was equivalent to a 67.66 mill local property tax evy. State aid going to Kane County would amount to a 10.84 mill property levy. New total state aid distributed to all units of government in Kane County last year amounted to $250,311, or $93.85 for every man, woman and child residing in the county. Kane County ranked 6 among the 29 Counties in the total amount of state aid received per capita. In addition to the state money allocated to local governments, the report note that the State collected and distributed $3.2 million in locally imposed taxes (local sales tax and car and bus company tax) plus $3.7 million in Federal funds to local units during fiscal 1960. Direct Federal aid . allocations to local units in Utah amounted to an additional $4.2 million last year. Thus, total allocations by the state and the Federal Governments to local units in Utah equal to ,$58.3 million, which amount was approxas much as was colimately 75 lected in local property taxes by these local governments in 1960. Foundation analysts observe that between 1946 and 1959, state in grants in aid increased 311 Utah and 308 in the nation as a whole. During the period 194CT through 1959, state aid to local gov.
