The recent election of the Fredonia Water Conservation District saw Eldon H. Johnson, Incumbent, reelected for a secondi three year term, Oscar R. Judd, board pres., announced this week. Cloyd Swapp is the third member of the, board. The District was formed in' 1938 to supply culinary water to the village of Fredonia and now supplies water to Fredonia, both within the District boundaries and outside them, and also to the Kaibab Lumber Company, Mr: Judd said. This past summei? of 59 is the only summer on record of the District that flash floods have not disrupted the sendee to water users. A great deal of work has been done in the past few years on the system and its source 20 miles northwest of town to the distribution lines within the township, and more water has been developed at the springs that are found on the rock ledges just inside the Utah boundaries, This is unique insofar as one state (Utah) will allow a town ip another state (Arizona) to file on its water rights and use them for its benefits. Without this supply of and good water,, the town of Fredonia would not have been able to grow to its present size and prosperity, the board president said in reviewing its history. The testing device is on loan from an optometrist, who wishes to remain anonymous, at St. George, Utah, and is the same equipment that was used last year. Several students are now wearing glasses and seeing better since the tests last year, and many parents have requested that this program be made available each year. The tests indicate whether professional examinations are advisable and if more testing is desirable, notes are sent to the parents.
