They returned Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Parker, Fredonia residents, had the misfortune of losing their first child, a girl, Cindy Kaye, of prematurity Thursday of last week. The infant was born at Kane County hospital but lived only 24 hours. Mrs. Parker is the former Suzann Chamber-lai- n of Kanab. The Knell Parkers of Fredonia are paternal grandparents. Many local people attended the Brigham Young University Homecoming in Provo last weekend. Those we heard of were: Misses Carol Jean Jackson, Carol White, Delna Swfcpp, Phyllis Powell, Carolyn Lewis, Mrs. Dawna Gaye White, the Evan Bean family, Miss Dixie Wilding, and Miss Sharon Ro.bb. There were others but we didnt get all the names. Elwin Pratt is recovering satisfactorily at home from his recent bout with hepatitis. He now is able to ' have visitors. Miss Louise Robinson, Fredonia girl who is Miss Coconino County for 1958, won the second attendant place in the Miss Arizona contest last week at the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix. Also here, from St. George, to visit ner parents, was the former Lucille Gardner, now Mrs. Stan Larson, and Mr. Larson. Mr. And Mrs. Thos. Blackburn left Friday of last week for Cali fornia to visit friends through the winter months. Birt Gardner, together with other REA officers, left Sunday for Montana, where they will at tend an REA convention. He expects to be gone a week or 10 days. . Home missionaries here Sunday evening were Ross Heaton and Burke Sorensen of the Stake High Council. With them to give another very Interesting talk was James Callison, who, with his family, are new resl dents of Orderville. Miss Dot Holgate came with them to sing a solo, with accompaniment by her mother. Mrs. Iola Leany of Hurricane and her daughter, Marlene Jones, and children of St. George, spent Elizabeth Wooley Jensen,' Rose Hicks Hamblin, Joseph G. Spencer, and William T. Dobson. Three were public school teachers, all were prominent in social and civic affairs of the little community, and all felt the need of just such a project. Mrs. Jensen had recently taken her degree at Utah State Agricultural College, where she had studied library science and had assisted in the college library. Always a lover of books, she had listened with much interest to the words of the speaker, at the same time forming in her mind the idea of a public libarary for Kanab. To her, the suggestion of Miss Downey did not seem an impossible undertaking. Writing on a slip of paper, she passed a note to Will Dobson. It read, "Will, if youll find a room, Ill be librarian. His reply, Its done, 'Bess. We can use, etc., Will. etc. At the close of that meeting, the four people who had occupied those rickety benches at the back of the hall held a lively dis cussion over ways and means of establishing a reading room. As the idea grew, it was decided to hold a book drive and ask the head of each family in town to donate books. More than a hundred suitable books resulted from this drive, and these books form ed the nucleus of the future 11 brary. The nature of the proposed amendment is to repeal Article XHI of the existing Articles pertaining to assessments and . to adopt in lieu thereof a new Article XIII which will provide that the issued and outstanding stock of the corporation shall be subject to assessments for any purposes consistent with the object and purposes of the corporation in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Directors, provided, however, that no such assessments shall exceed the sum of $2.00 per share of the outstanding capital stock of ,the corporation of all classes, unless a majority of the stockholders of such outstanding shares shall authorize such larger assessments at a regular meeting or at a special meeting called for that purpose; to elect officers for the ensuing year; and to transact such further business as may properly come before said meeting.
