When the metal is taken from the mold it is cool and ready for use. u There is another machine on which a printer can print wedding announcements, bulletins, and other such articles. Still another machine is used to cut and shape the melted metal slugs before they are clear cool. Thanks Mr. Brown for letting us come, and we hope we've learned something about making a paper. We appreciate your giving us the slugs with our names printed on them. e plant) The Alton 4th, 5th and 6th grades took a trip to the publishing office in Kanab on May 2nd. When - we, arrived Mr. Brown was putting the news words into a frame to put them on the press. The news comes from towns all over Kane County and often from other places near-by- . The editor melts used metal slugs and types news on them. Then he puts them in a frame arranged like he wants the pages of the paper (o be. He tightens them in so they have no chance of falling out, then puts them both on the press and tightens them down. There is a small ink tray on one end of the press which comes off an ink roller. Some other rollers take the ink down to the metal pages. Then the paper comes from on top, put in by Mr. Brown who stands on a platform and works the levers. Spending their first night at Las Vegas, the group under the supervision of Mr. Dale Flnnicum and Mrs. Alice Powell, got to peek in some of the gambling citys casinos, toured the and shops at the Last Frontier, then off to the Pacific coast. The class enjoyed the many sights at Knotts Berry Farm, toured the harbors at Wilmington and Long Beach, rode the roller coaster at the Pike in Long Beach and watched with awe the Circlerama and exciting trips through Disneyland. This was a real thrill for the senior boys. At Huntington Beach the group had a thrill at trying ocean swimming. The class received public recognition on the boat trip to Catalina where they enjoyed the sights of the famous bird sanctuary, and marveled at the sightj in the Glass Bottom Boat Trip. At Catalina some of the boys rented a motor boat and had a wonderful time with it. The seniors were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Finnicum at Wilmington; here they saw many of their favorite radio programs on TV and enjoyed in the evenings.. Mr. Finnicum is a former student of FHS. Mrs. Eva Shelton and daughter Doris, formerly of Fredonla and now residing at Montebello, visited with the seniors at the one evening.
