A determination had to be made on how to pay for fighting a fire that was only hours old. Two options were offered to the city he explained "First the Forest Service proposed Fainnngton take care of its costs and only on that portion of the tire that took place within city boundaries The second option, Connors continued, involved totalling up all costs tor fighting the tire then div iding them between the orest Service and the city based on the proportion of the fire that burned within each ot our jurisdictions A total of 2.000 acres burned, but 100 acres were within only Farmington boundaries flie most common figure given for fighting the blae was $1.5 million But. other estimates have gone as high as $2.2 million Connors elected to sign on for the first option This, he said, turned out to be the right deci1 sion The following item on the agenda also dealt with fue con free PR help for nonprofit groups 24-ho- non-prof- it 487-480- as follows: Application deadline.
