An example of helpful advice might be, If your kid says theyre going to throw up, get them to the toilet. Better safe than sorry. The other 90 percent: If your kid says theyre going to throw up, you might have let them eat too much popcorn. Ive been on the hunt for the helpful advice lately and you wouldnt believe the stupid hints some people actually get into print! (I know, the irony that this column makes it into print each week hasnt been lost on me.) Hints like: If you have trouble with your child drawing on your wall, spray paint them a chalkboard so they have a safe place to There draw? Heres the problem. Is there is anyone out there who thinks a big black square on the wall is preferable in appearance to some Crayola? If my kid draws on the wall, they get the honor of trying to clean it off with Windex (which doesnt work, by the way, so theyre going to have to scrub for a long tune.) They never try it on-lin- e 1 July Reality check: You know what else makes a great dispenser for glue? The plastic bottle the glue comes in in the first place. So what if you buy your glue in those huge bulk bottles the size of Florida? Solution: Stop buying them. Unless you're a schoolteacher, what could you possibly need to adhere together that requires a full gallon of glue? Useless hint: (I promise, I really read this one) If your child is teething, let them gnaw on a dog biscuit, just watch that they dont bite off a piece. Problem: I dont actually need to spell this one out, do I? Just because dog biscuits can be consumed by humans doesn't mean they should be. Solution: Seriously, if youre struggling to find a preferable gnawing object to dog biscuits, consider returning to Parenting 101. Speaking of crayons, another useless hint: To keep your crayons from breaking, wrap transparent tape around them Useless hint: If your child gets an owiel give them a hurt whistle to blow while youre making it all better. Allow them to blow it until it feels OK again. Problem: If my kid was blowing a whistle five inches from me, it wouldnt take too long before both of us had an owie. Solution: Let em blow bubbles instead. Id rather have soap in my eye than a whistle in my first. ears. And the problem: the distance from the end of a new crayon to the top of the paper can be measured in millimeters. What happens to the crayon when youve got to tear the paper down so you can keep coloring? Better solution: Let it break. There have to be bigger problems in the world than broken crayons. Useless hint: Empty and washed mustard containers make great dispensers for glue. Useless hint: If your child only eats sugary cereals, buy something healthy and top it with a favorite like chocolate chips or coconut. Problem: You know what thats called? Sugary cereal! again. 407-849- 9 264-261- 4 Useless ips for lids lo place at the Old City I fall building in Salt Like City or more information v isit it it it i jazzfcst com i TI-1- 2003 10, Thursday, July Sheesh.
