It was suipnsing for Schnibe and the cast to also discover that another cast member, Joey n ambertson. is the of the Sunday School teacher to whom Huebner wrote one of his final letters Sixty-twyears ago Schnibe, Huebner and Rudi Wobbi anti-Napamphlets until they weie betrayed by another member of their group and brought to trial. The groups leader. luebner. was subsequent-beheaded while Schnibe and Vobbi were imprisoned. Schnibe was then sent as a soldier to the Pastern Front as the war was ending and spent four mon' years in Russia as a pnson-e- i ITie play tells Karl-Hein- I t, - great-grandso- o 1 K During his visit with the cast, Schnibe described his final, tearful parting with his friend. Huebner, just before Huebner's execution. He explained his long personal struggle to overcome his bitterness and despair alter he was able to get out of Russia. My road to freedom was a long, dangerous road and my road to become a normal person again was haid and long, too. he told cast members His ability to enjoy hie again was made possible by finally forgiving those who had so severely punished him and his young Mormon friends The play,Huebncn' was written in 1976 by BYU professor Thomas Roger. The Provo campus productions received high acclaim in the 1970s and again in the 90s. Rogers has been called the father of modern Mormon drama, and has receiv ed lifetime achievement awards from the Mormon Arts Festival and the Association for Mormon letters The play retains great relevance though set sev eral decades ago. Audience members can easily relate the tale of the oppression of a nation by its maniacal dictator with the recent events of the Iraqi war. Performances of Huebner will run Tuesdays through Saturdays, May 14 - June 5 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students and $2.50 per person for groups of 10 or more on Tuesday and Wednesday performances.
