Cyprus -3 -1 -1 3 -1 -2 State prep tournaments announced DAVIS COUNTY - The Utah state soccer, soft-ba- ll and baseball tournaments begin next week. The softball and baseball tournaments begin one week from today at the home fields of the higher seed in rounds one and two. Rounds three and four will be played at Lindquist Field and BYU for baseball while softball games will be played at the Cottonwood Complex. The state soccer tournaments begin May 15 and 16, and will be played at Juan Diego High School after round one. The team dropped a game to the Layton Lancers this week 3 and really hasn't looked the same since nine players received suspensions resultinvolving ing from an incident alcohol. The which incident, once-promisi- 5-- occurred April 19, occurred on a team road trip to Las Vegas. All nine players are suspended for the rest of the season. Sam Schanle had a big game for the Lancers as he got the win on the mound and helped out at the plate with two doubles. Layton moved into a second-plac- e tie in Region 1. The Lancers' Wyatt Bubak was also big as he collected two hits and three RBIs Layton has a thiee-gam- e winning streak. Both teams have been at or near the top of the region standings the whole season and neither wanted to lose this one. The Lancers played without leading scorer Kyle Christensen, who was out because of red card violation against Fremont, and sweeper Daniel McKinley who missed the game with a concussion. Viewmont got the win, behind an awesome performance in goal by Mike Smith. The Vikings only goal was scored by Justin Godfrey in the 37th minute of the second half. Ben Clark. Garet Burningham and Brennan Brown scored in regulation for the Wildcats. Erick Callejas scored m overtime, giving Woods Cross the much needed victory Davis picked up a huge 0 win over Geai field on Thursday, earning a spot in the 5A playoffs. Ryan Robinson scored two Jake goals, while teammates Williams, Clark Pierson and Dave Firmage each added a goal. Firmage also earned the shutout in net for the Darts, who will face Brighton in the first round of the playoffs. Lots of local medalists in field events. In the javelin, Dan Vansweden of Northridge was fourth and Gearfield's Kody Lewis took seventh. The high jump produced finishes of second by Trevor Heiner of Viewmont, fourth by Randy Grundvig of Gearfield, fifth by LaytonBS Caleb Perkins, and sixth by Viewmont's Brandon Barrett. Davis' Jeff Agnello took second behind Ball m the pole vault, with Viewmont's Taylor Johnson and Rob Merrill taking home sixth and seventh place. And in the shot put. Gearfield's Danny Fosmark was second at 53-Northridge's Kyler Smith took third, Davis' Jon McBride was sixth and Gearfield's Jared Wilcox took eighth. Among the women competitors. Northridge's Becky Tueller had a fine afternoon, taking fourth in the 2(H) meters, third in the UK) meters, and third in the 400 meters. Stacie Lifferth of Northridge was seventh in the 4M) meters, Cassi Grotepas of Davis was sixth in the 1(M) meters, Viewmont's Emily Allen was fourth in the 100 hurdles, and Layton's Michelle Mower finished fifth in the 3200 meters. Davis took second in the 4(K) meter relay (Ashlee Cannon. at BYU Grotepas. Savannah Spackman. and Lindsey Steele), and third in the 1600 meter relay (Spackman. Allison Passey and Grotepas, Andrea Billings). The Northridge medley relay team of Device Decker, Kelli Hansen, Lifferth and Tueller took second. second behind Taking Farnsworth in the discus was I larvey.
