At the opening kickoff for the Darts it looked like Davis could repeat their win over the Eagles and a chance to spoil Skylines homecoming gala. Bryce Stevenson took the opening kickoff 64 yards. On the 1st play from scrimmage Kerry Shepard fumbled the ball and Skyline took four plays topped off by a pass from Brandon Leeuwen to Bo Nagahi and as quick as you can blink, the Eagles took the lead and that would be as close as the Darts would get to winning this game. On the Darts next play Shepard fumbled again the Skyline went down to see Adam Reiser field goal. increase their lead with a Davis took the next possession under the guidance of Kellen Fowler down the field and watched Bryce Stevenson put the ball through field goal and Davis the uprights on a inched back into the game. 8-- 57-ya- 29-ya- 33-ya- GDsms ?filbs)Dn U From that point on the game belonged to the Eagles as they scored on eight of their nine next possessions and Davis could only try to get back into the game but to no avail. A key for the Darts was the number of mental errors that Skyline would immediately take down the field and convert into a score. However, this was not all the backfield's blame as they would usually have Shane Barkdall, Jeremy Alvord and Bryce Stevenson w illing and able to take the ball down the field. Barkdall and Alvord were still nursing injuries from past games, so they were on the sidelines trying to give everything they have to give their team support. Stevenson and Joe Toone were the only runners the Darts had with experience, but that came to an end at the 7:54 .mark in the second quarter. Davis had another hurdle to overcome as Stevenson was carried off the field with the same knee injury that took him out of the game with Hunter in last year's playoffs. From that point on the Darts were walking by faith as they tried to get back some shred of dignity into this contest. With Joe Toone the lone back and Kerry Shepard who usually runs at tight end, Davis tried everything they could to get some kind of momentum, but the Eagles had the contest well in hand and they continued to put the pedal to the metal and run up the score. No. Braves looking to ffngjCBG finish undefeated BY BEN DE VOE Finally the clock ran down and the Eagles players, fans and alumni, rushed onto the field after they embarrassed the Darts. Skyline head coach Roger Dupaix felt happy with the win, but he felt for the Darts and their injury bug. We escaped this game injury free, but I felt bad for Davis losing Stevenson said Dupaix. He is a great player and to lose with the other team losing players to injury, well its not as fun. The score is not indicative of this Davis team. They are a great team. With the number of mistakes they had they lost all their momentum and that was the game. Davis head coach Jim Dickson summed up the game well. We got our butt kicked and all we can do is come back and regroup he said. I really get frustrated with the number of mistakes, and plays lines. I just that we gave up within the dont know what to think. Well just have to regroup and hit it again. For the game Skyline had 537 total yards and just nine first downs. They had 41 rushes for 394 yards. They went in passing for 143 yards and they scored on both passes. Davis rushed for 120 yards on just 40 carries. Their leading rusher for the Darts was Bryce Stevenson with 6 carries for 42 yards. The Darts next game will be against Cottonwood on their home turf. We gave up some big plays which led to touchdowns, said Clearfield Coach Randy Johnson. Cottonwood now has dropped two close region games to Layton and Clearfield. It appeared that the Colts were en route to a big upset leading 4 with under three minutes left in the game. Cottonwood had possession inside the Clearfield 40 and the Falcons were forced to bum three timeouts on defense. Clearfield stopped the Colts on four downs, and an unnecessary roughness call against Cottonwood gave Clearfield the ball at the Colt 49 with two minutes remaining. The Falcons kept hope alive by getting on one pass reception and converting on fourth down. With 54 seconds left in regulation, the Falcons came up with a big play of their own. 9 On from the 38, Cottonwood blitzed its comerback and Moultrie zipped a quick inside pass to flanker Nick Murray who raced touchuntouched into the end zone for a down and a 1 tie. 27-2- 1 victory. After Clearfield took the lead, the Colts still had a chance to win. They needed to score a touch- down in four plays from 10 yards out and kick an extra point. But C arfields Matt Hammer spoiled Cottonwood's homecoming when he intercepted a pass at the 3 yard line to end the game. Obviously our kids and coaching staff underestimated this team. Following the score, both teams played solid defense. I felt we played strong defensively the entire game, said Cook. Chaysie (Call) had an outstanding defensive game for us. In the second half, Viewmont came out on the attack. Thacker scored her second goal followed by scores from Sandra Holt and Kari Keddington to give the Vikes a 0 advantage. A short pass to Justin Menlove gave them even better position, but the offensive line couldn't hold up, allowing Malmrose to be sacked again, this time by Jeff Hanks, forcing the Wildcats to punt. Ebersol advanced the ball downfield to freshman Erin Hertig, who raced past three Spartans, and rocketed the ball past the outstretched Kotter. Murray had some opportunities in the first half came when the Wildcat defense momentarily fell asleep and allowed Heather Hunt two open shots at the goal. Fortunately, Hunt's first attempt was slightly over the goal, and her second was stopped by the always tough defense of McLeod. McLeod saved her shutout one more time with the first half coming to a close, when Murrays Katie Willardson made a long pass to Hunt, who looked sure to score on a fast break. . Just before Hunt took her shot, McLeod made a 10 foot dive to col to town and we just seemed to lose confidence in what we could do on the field. Give Viewmont a lot of credit. They did what they had to and we didnt. The Vikings scored again to gain the 0 vic- and Carisse Winegar. They were then shut down for the rest of the half, and even lost the momentum as West drilled a goal from 20 yards out to get some hope shot into their game. Bountiful wasnt quite sweating yet, but the next thing they knew West had a comer kick and netted another goal to make it an uncomfortable Our shooting gets hot and cold, but we seem to play to whoever were playing with, said Wgham. The Braves turned up the offensive intensity and put the Panther defense under strenuous pressure by controlling the ball on the west side of the field and with some rapid fire shots. Two errant shots by Ashley Johnson had everybody feeling that a goal wouldn't be too far away. It wasn't as Allison McGarvey laid out a sweet touch pass up the middle of the field for the breaking Ashley Cox to run down for the goal. The Panthers were cooked goose as they began to complain of unauthorized touching and whatever else they could imagine. The game was put on ice by Erin Stock who nailed a penalty kick to put the Panthers in check. The Braves are edging closer and closer to finishing the season undefeated and while Wigham maintains that it hasn't entered his mind it has to be a thought as they have the toughest stretch of their season next week.
