This night of honoring students and faculty is SUU's only "black tie event" of the year. Admission to the awards is free but a formal dance following the event will cost $5 for singles and $8 for couples. The dance will be held in the Harris Pavilion beginning at lO p.m. The awards ceremony this year has John Bytheway, an administrator with BYU's continuing education department, as master of ceremonies. One of Bytheway' s trademarks is impersonating carroon characters. Many of the awards given are traditional such as scholar of the year, athlete of the year, and professor of the year. Five people are nominated for each category. Many awards are named after people who have contributed somehow to the university. Such awards include the Elaine C. Southwick Meredith Award, and the R Kenneth Benson Award. Nominees for the Elaine C. Southwick Meredith. Adriana Corte, Keri ---~-~----- Measom Glazier, Kori Higgins, St.ad McCarter Meacham and Stacy Nix. The R. Kenneth Benson Award honoring males have Kenley Brinkerhoff, Kevin M. Heaton, Douglas Mason, Pierre Mvemba and Eddy Rawlings. An award handed out to honor SUU staff is the Presiden~s Award. Del Beatty, Hannan Bonniksen, Charles Cooley, James C. Lea and Faith Reeves are nominated for their outstanding setvice to SUU. A new award given this year is the Administrator of the Year, says Mechelle Mellor, student coordinator of the event The nominees for this new award include John Angell, D. Marie Barton, Sterling R. Church, Stuart Jones, and Julie Stuart. Another change in this year's program is that all nominees for Performer of the Year must perform a short number at the ceremony. If unable to perform at the celebration, performers are m;iuired to go before the judges prior to the competition. Clarisssc M. Alden, Geoffrey Anderson, Robbie Berry, and Brian Vaughn are the nominees of this category. Along with honoring srudcntli and SUU faculty, the Thunderbird Awards Night will also honor a srudcnt club as Organiz.ation of the Year. The clubs up for honors are Block and Bridle Oub, Diversity Club, Phi Alpha Beta and VICA. Mellor invites everyone to come watch the Thunderbird Awards Night "Just come and enjoy the ceremony.
