The elementary· school stu ent I t his h ring last year as a result of meningitis. Now, class lectures, as igrunents, and even hi. friend 'jokes re typed by a teacher's aide. Th young boy's paren originally let h.im take American Sign langua lessons from a woman here in Iron County. But, learning a new language i difficult, and igning eems to make him stand out too much from his peer . ot enough teachers or citizens know how to communicate hrough ASL SUU sh uld play a larger role in puilding people' intere t by cheduling a self. upporting sign language cour e to be taught here on campu . With a university-sponsored cour e, mor Iron County citizen (and many of our students who come fr m other places) could be introduced to ASL. With more people knowledgea le about sign language, maybe Keith's parents would be m re willing to encourage his learning, and perhap they would feel comfortable taking the class themselves. Communication of i eas, emotion and observations is important-ASL encourages this. True, southern Utah does n t have a high in idence of deaf persons; opportunities for the d fare usually centered in large cities. And that's all the more reason to offer an introductory course here, because many SUU graduate will seek work in larger citie where their intere t in and knowledge of ASL could be used and developed. SUU could take the op rtunity now to park that inter t. As a greater influx of people enlarge outhern Utah' population, the demand for ASL translating will naturally increa e. Sherry Wil on, a ertified translator, says, "The opportunity ju t creep up and pop up; and when they call me, 1 run ... On time I translated at th wedding ceremony of a deaf man. Another time I used to translate three hours of church service for a deaf couple-when I came home, if anyon asked me to do something, l' d just tell them to go take a flying leap. It takes a lot of mental capabilities to translate poken Langua e into mething that your hands do. Signing wears you out mentally and physically. "It' not an easy thing to learn, but a lot of people enjoy it But, you really have to be motivated," Wilson ay . As SUU eeks uniqueness through offering Ru sian and business Japanese cour es, an American Sign Language class would help SUU' image of communication-that n t only builds international bridge , but also builds bri ges to individuals in our soci ty that have different n ds. What a crock.. I wish the enviro-mentaUy-insane would shove all their eco-babbl up their oione hole. Apparently •Hamburgerman's" atmclc again t the Big-Mac-attack has cultivated additional sprouts at a recent SUU Convocation. Propaganda can be very effective on the immature, unlearned, and uncaring. On-the-other-hand, enviro-menrally-in ane lackeys of the green regime perpetrate a fraud by promoting inane solutions to nonexisn:nt, imagined, or fabricated problems. Got a maa:hr The green regimes' massive propaganda c.a.mpaign of mi infonnation is d igned IX> promote environmental hysteria. The question we should ask is, why all the fen:i.l izer? Answer: One world government There are certain men today, not unlike Stalin, or Hitler, who seelt power to control manic.ind in order to make them conform to their id logies. These men, wbo lust after power, wealth and glory, have joined forces IX> create a new world o rde r under a one world government headed by the United Nations. In order for one world government to succeed, each nation's boundaries and sovereignty must be destroyed, ~nd that's where the green regime oomes in. What better way to bring the world's nations un er global government than IX> u propaganda to ff:ed gfobal environmental panic, an make us believe the big lie: •The earth is dying! The green regime is made up of groups like che Natural Resources Defense Council, the Sierra Club, the Environm ntal Defense Fund, the National Adubon Society, the National Wildlife Federation, and Friends of the Earth. Th e group , and others, further the politics of environmentalism more than scientific truth. (Most group-members are unaware that a secret agenda cxi . Nevertheless, through their ignorance, they become dupes for the agenda, and promote it) If the green regime can ignite enough environmental hysteria, then those in power can justify government intervention and ontrol ove r private property and people, and the end result will be a totalitarian socialist one-world government And that's the reason they feed us fertilizer-truth muced with lies, conclusions ased on unreliable theories, and a oon cmt torrent of rhetoric designed drown all voices th t would speak th ttuth. Who are the global polluters-besides manic.ind, womankind, and itlcind? Oops! Was I being a homophobicorgasmicsluc? The 1988 U.S . 1'ROUG HT was not due to global warming, as some scientists used to think, but was caused by the natural phenomenon of interaction between El Nino and I.a Nina. CARBON DIOXIDE is excellent for plant growth, but if it wasn't, who could we blame! Researchers have e timated that the gross amount of carbon dioxide produced by termites was more than twice the net global output from fossil fuel combustion.
