Schlafly offers a conservative view re-education by the media, people think differently," Schlafly said. "Feminists want accusation to be enough to convict. Feminists are not after equality," Schlafly further explained. "l believe 99 percent of Bush's problem is the rescinding of his 'No New T axes' pledge, a moral and political mistake...Govemor Clinton and Ross Perot are for raising truces, Bush is not," Schlafly said. About the Perot phenomenon, Schlafly explained, "He's emerged because of dissatisfaction in both parties. This was shown when so many Republicans supported Democratic presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. It's not surprising that Perot was able to find a constiruency." Class signup and Information 586-4544 Phyllis Schlafly, a prominent conservative speaker and activist, voiced some powerful opinions at Thursday's Convocation. The topic was "Campaign '92: A Closer Look." However, she also discussed a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from the Clarence Thomas hearings to abortion. Schlafly started by saying that the Bush campaign has fallen victim to "the most biased media I can remember." She related this bias to Anita Hill's sexual harassmen t claims in last year's Clarence Thomas hearings. "The American people supported Thomas during the hearings three-to-One. With a little foresight and a little help from SU's Placement Center, however, many uncertainties can soon be dispelled. Cal Stroud, placement officer, encourages those planning to graduate in the near fun.ire to come to the Placement Center and take advantage of placement services here on campus. The average time nationwide it takes a graduate to secure employment is six months. Utah's average is somewhat better, especially in wholesale and resale trade and services. Still, the prospective employee can plan on about three to six months to find work. "That means starting while you're still in school to find contacts," Stroud says. Stroud is optimistic about the prospects for employment in Utah. He says that, in contrast with the national economy, Utah's economy is doing quite well, especially in the Washington and Iron County areas. He says it is "overall still a pretty dynamic market" The fastest growing oppornmities are in enoy level positions in the service indusoy, but other jobs become available evenrually with growth in any area. He cites Behavioral Sciences as another rapidly expanding field, especially in corrections. However, he stresses that "there is no 'best' choice that relates to getting a job speedily." He cites that 70 percent of jobholders aren't satisfied with their present employment Srudents would be wise to make careful choices about the fields they want to go into, he says.
