THE THUNDERBIRDO SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITYO MONDAY MAY 11 , 19920 PAGE 5 Activists misguide efforts (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 4) ·'alive '· legally at conception, abortion should be a llowed , within the legal parameters. (In some states, except for sexually repressed ones like Utah, these parameters are the first trimester, and for whatever reason the mother has. Possib ly this is guaged because in some scientific way, signs of what we call life can be measu red only after this stage. If you take into accou nt how many spontaneou s abortions happen as miscarriages and late periods, you can understand why the term murder may be inappropriate at this stage.) Until such proof on conceptual life is discovered, and seeing as how it will probably be a long time in coming, perhaps ~he time and energy the pro-choicers expend in defend ing a single right could be extended to other endangered rights, such as free soeech and religion, as weU as the rights abu ses in other countries. As fo r the pro-lifers, j udging by the amount of uncared for children who wind up in gangs and prisons, we seem to argue ' till the end for a child's right to life at conception, then as soon as they' re born, discard them into our floundering and unforgiving social, economic, and educational systems. Maybe they could better spend their time concentrating on improving the quality of life for those who are already alive, rather than waste time secondguessing the C reator, or playing God. Richard Bonaduce Unborn have no rights TO THE EDITOR : This letter is a rebuttal to the people who became offended when the TRUTH was shown to them in my letter dated 4/2/92. In particular the letters dated 4/6/92 in response to my letter . These letters claim that I took the Lord 's name in vain and that I was a blasphemer. The reasoning was because they became offended from what I wrote, well I'm sorry if the truth hurts their feelings h ere. Yet, if they became offended it does not make me a blasphemer nor does it mean that I took the Lord's n ame in vain. M y letter did not degrade God in any way, shape, or form. In fact, all my letter is claiming is that God has shown support for social liberty and personal justice (see John 8 :32, Psalms 119: 45 , Lev. 25:10; and for you LDS people see D&C 98:5, 101:76-79, 134:1-3, Ether 2:12, and others.) Also my letter did not claim that God is a supporter of abortion, j ust liberty. Now with all said, let's go through the major points brought out from these letters. Both letters said that the Con stitution is extended to unborn babies. Well I hate to break the truth here, the 14th Amendment shows us only people who are born or naturalized in the U .S. can become citizens. Therefore if one extends rights to the unborn, who are not citizens of our nation, at the expense of the rights of our own citizen s, it is a dear violation of the Con stitution and its intent. T o the point that the Lord communicated that He believes abortion is m urde.r and is a promoter of safe sex, j ust because a lot of people say it is the will of God doesn't make it correct. History is filled with stories of how people enslaved, killed ( even R ev. Jim Jones had God tell him the best way to do it is by Kool-aid.), and even tortured others, all because of someone claiming it is the will of God. To sum it all up, there is no way an issue like this can be solved by making a law that destroys the foundation of our nation's liberty. This is something the devil would truly love! ~ I -.w111ri FRY NOW, PAY LATER .... ~De•, ~ ~ , , Lynn G.
