Four students-Cami Barney, Robert Johnston, Jessica Blonquist and Andrea Zundel- and Associate Professor Jon mith, all from the communication deparunent at SUU, recently trained for five day in alt Lake-City in preparation for profe sional broadcasting job during the 2002 G:µnes. They met at alt Lake Community College with representative from International ports Broadcasting (I B) 3.!> part of the Broadcast Training Program for the Olympics. The job available include camem o perator and assistants, audio, commentator assi tants, videotape o pe ramr and logger, archivi t and llai on. The organization will be re ·pon ible for televi ing more than 900 hours of Jive Olympic competition a a ervice to mo re than 80 international Rights Holding Broadcasters. During the Games, it will employ more than 1,600 people, part of whom will include 400 student and faculty. About 20 of these will be from SUU, operating various broadcast equipment necessary to cover all 78 Olympic events including more than 400 cameras and 140 videotape machine . During his training, he ran a slow-motion in cane repJay machine in a remote broadcast truck for a practice hockey game. He found the pace wa inten e , aying, "There is so much pre sure and I can 't beLieve they have you log (write down) each play at the same time you are playing the videornpe back for the show. " Zundel, a enior communiearion/ broodcasting major , from t. Anthony, Idaho, is training as an audio assistant. In her first day of trairying, she took page of no.t e on microphone and headset connections. Birney, a enior communication/ broadcasting major fro m Lander, W o ., and Blonquist, a senior communication/ broadca ting major from Heber City, Utah , both trained in camera. Their assignment was to not only learn to operate the cameras during a fast-pace event, but also to know h w to disassemble and then reas emble very expensive equipment.
