I'm sure that most of the student body has noticed the little black boxes hanging on all of the bulletin boards throughout campus. These boxes are attached alongside a large black and white flier asking, "who deserves one?" These are the announcements and nomination centers for the 2001 Thunderbird Awards in April. Last week's paper ran a great article describing the different awards given and how we , as students , were all part of the process of nominating friends, advisers, teachers and/or clubs & organizations that we believe are deserving of such honorable awards. I am an officer of SUUSA and am acquainted with a few of the people who are putting this ceremony together and doing a fantastic job . One of them is Josie Beth Baxter , SUUSA T-Bird Awards chairwoman. In last week 's paper she was quoted , · 1 want to recognize as wide a variety of people as possible; new people, new faces and new ideas ... we have a great campus with people doing extraord inary th ings People can feel proud ,of what they have accomplished.· I would just like to point out that what she said could not be more true , for it is what the award's ceremony is all about! If you have not already done so. I invite all students to take a moment to stop and read the various awards, think about those who might deserve it, and fill out a nomination card soon; before Feb. 16 Anyone who comp lains about the officers of SUUSA being members of the student association should only complain if they have already participated. at least once, in any behind-the-scenes efforts of student government and openly shared any problems or disappointments they have had with the SUUSA officers themselves first. It's the students' school and their student association - anything any studenf wants to say or add is absolutely needed and appreciated by more people than they would ever think. The mission of SUU is largely to have a great number of students involved in various projects and happenings on campus . C & 0 , school associations. advisers, administration , students .. .they all do so much for SUU .
