Show !THURSDAY, FEBRUA RY 8 , 1001 Addition of tech school discussed BY ANGIE MANZANARES JOURNAL STAFF WRITER On Monday, members of the Deans· Council discussed the addition of another school at SUU . The proposed addition, the School of Appl ied Science and Technology, is "a spinoff of the prioritization and rea llocation effort,· according to a discussion outline given to the Deans' Council. This is not the first time the idea of a new school at SUU has been proposed . In fact, according to the outline, it has come up several times over the last decade. Insight from the Deans' Council concerning the matter is being sought by the committee which advanced the proposal. The committee in support of the new school outlined that, with its addition, concerns relating to national and state shortages of applied education teachers would be addressed "more effectively.· Meeting the needs of applicationoriented students was also noted in the outline. Several different entities at SUU are considering involvement in the new school. Among those are information systems, the agriculture science division, the technology and criminaJ justice department and the business education and computer information systems department. The Deans' Council also discussed recommended ct:ianges to annual and three-year reviews for facu lfy and staff at SUU . These changes , ~f made , would affect leave, rank and tenure policies. The motion was voted upon , passed and sent back to fac~lty senate for further review.
