SPORTS EDITOR Justin Sant scored 18 points in the second half to help Southern Utah University defeat Kraitene Marijampoe, a team from Lithuania, 95-63 Friday night at the Centrum. Two of SUU's starters from the previous exhibition game, Jeff Monaco and Dan Beus did not dress for the game. Monaco has an ankle problem and Beus was suspended a game for fighting last week's game against Son's Blue Angels. Sant scored 23 points on eight-of-14 shooting and four-ofsix from the three-point line. Fred House added 17 for the 'Birds while Stan Johnson and B.J. Chandler each had 14 in the 'Bird win. "I was very pleased with the effort our team put into this game," SUU head coach Bill Evans said. "I felt like our guys went out and played very unselfish tonight.· in Lady T-Birds get re_ . a dy for weekend tourney BY JASEN ASAY JOURNAL SPORTS EDITOR As SUU's women's basketball team prepares for . the Southern Mississippi/Studio Inn Classic on Friday, the players and coaches are pleased with how the team is pulling together and playing hard. Friday night, the squad held a red/white scrimmage, in which it was evident that the season should be bright for the Lady T-Birds. Lindsay Hille scored a game-high 15 points, including three from three-point land. "We accomplished a lot in the scrimmage,· said SUU head coach Joe Hillock after Friday's scrimmage. "In the next three days we'll be more than ready {for the tournament). I wouldn't want to play it tonight though.· The 'Birds displayed their fast-paced style and deadly outside shooting against each other, but now say they are ready for other competition. "I can't wait to play a different team," said Beverly Glover.
