THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2000 Sluggers land local transfer from Nebraska Southern Utah University Head Baseball Coach Kurt Palmer announced the signing of former Dixie High .and Dixie College first baseman Dan Wright Tuesday afternoon. Wright has transferred tcr SUU from the University of Nebraska: where he played for the Cornhuskers last season. · Wright batted .277 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 42 games for the Cornhuskers last season, a team that had a 51-17 record, won the Big-12 and NCAA R~gional championship and came within three runs of earning its first-ever trip to the College World Series. At Dixie College, Wright earned NJCAA First Team All-America honors as a sophomore after hitting .443, with 21 home runs and 86 RBI , leading the Rebels to an eighth-place national finish in 1998. He also led Dixie High School to the 1997 State 3A title after hitting .420 with six home runs and 28 RBI , garnering first-team all-state and region honors and was named Region 9 MVP. "Dan will be a good addition to our team ," Palmer said. "He is a typical clean-up hitter who can drive in runs, has a high slugging percentage and is a good defensive player. It's going to make getting into our starting lineup a bit more competitive with our other players at that position. I wish we could have had him right after his time at Dixie College." SUU opens the 2001 season on the road with a three-game series at national-power Arizona State Feb. 2-4, in Tempe.
