Show !TUESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2000 PAGE 19 UNIVERSITY JOURNAL CAMPUS NEWS New faculty, staff ready to start work ·sixty, "and maybe more· new faculty and staff members will be starting their first new academic year at Southern Utah university with the beginning of fall semester classes tomorrow. Twenty-one of the new employees will be members of the teaching faculty. and 39 are staff members. Not all of those starting their'first full academic year are brand new. Some began their employment at SUU after the start of the last academic year and have already spent some time in their positions. "The makeup of the faculty and staff at the university is dynamic, so we may actually have more than 60 new people by the time the semester begins,· David McGuire, director of human resources, said. ·we do know for sure that there will be at least 60 new ' employees.· The majority of the new employees will be filling vacancies created by people retiring or leaving the university for a variety of other reasons: Recent university growth, however, has created a demand for a larger faculty and staff, according to McGuire. so some of the positions are new and not simply replacements. · our new faculty members will fit into a variety of work situations,· McGuire points out. ·some are employed in a relatively permanent 'tenure track' category; others are in temporary replacement positions for people temporarily away from the university; and there are other categories in between."
