Show MONDAY, JANUARY 31 , 2000 UNIVERSITY JOURNAL ARTS PAGE 12 SUU to host theatre and dance conference BY LIZZY RUGG JOURNAL ARTS EDITOR SUU will host "Festivention." this year's Rocky Mountain Theatre Association conference, the oldest theatre conference in the United States, said Mac McIntyre, "Festivef'ftion" host and theatre professor at SUU. "Festivention" will run from Feb 2 to Feb. 5. It will include workshops, completions and performances. McIntyre said "there are workshops for all , whether you are a dancer. technician or an actor and even workshops on how to start a theatre." Reg1strat1on fee is $65 for students and $80 for nonstudents. Registration can be completed up to the last day of the conference, though the fee will not be reduced for later registrations. Students can register on Monday or Tuesday 1n room 406 of the General Classrooms Building. After that time. registration will be held in room 108 of the Auditorium. Performances will be held in the evening and admission is $2 for students with a student identification card. Tickets can be purchased at the Randall L. Jones Theatre Box Office. · There will be a performance every night of the conference. Wednesday the Grandstreet Theatre will be presenting Always Patsy Cline Thursday the Adams State College will present Arcadia. A collaborative dance concert by the David Taylor Dance Theatre will perform on Friday. Western Wyoming College ends the conference with a production of Field of Glory. Several different workshops w ill be held each day by professionals who have been in the performance business for years, said Heather Michael, a junior theatre arts major from West Valley City and conference co-coordinator. "The Working Actor" and "Classical Theatre for Young Actors." Gwen Grimes, artist-in-residence at SUU. will be holding ballet workshops, while Kay Anderson, SUU ·assistant professor of dance, will be holding tap dancing workshops. Jacque Lynn Bell , a dancer, choreographer and certified instructor of the Alexander Technique, will present workshops on the Alexander Technique. Pat Debenham , co-director of the Contemporary Danceworks, and his wife Kathie Debenham. codirector of the Brigham Young University YoungMakers, will hold a workshop titled "Dancing Your Inner Character Using Principles of Ladan Movement Analysis." A workshop on dance in musical theatre will be presented by Brent Schneider, an assistant professor in the department of modern dance at the University of Utah and artistic director for the Performing Dance Company. Other workshops include: • Costume design, set design and lighting design, held by Rory Scanlon, author of Tools of the Costume Designer. • "Safety in the Paintshop," held by Kellie Williams, scenic artist for USF. • Several costume and make-up workshops will by held by Sandra Stiglinski , costumer for the College of Performing and Visual Arts at SUU. • Marketing workshops will be held by Donna Law, director of marketing and public relations for USF, and Rebecca Patterson, marketing and promotions director for the SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts. • A fundraising workshop will be held by Jyl Shuler, the fund development manager for USF. • Stage management and casting workshops will be held by Mitzi McKay, USF's personnel r:nanager and casting assistant. • How to start or refine a theatre or dance organization is the topic of a workshop by McIntyre. Special guest speaker Gerald R. Molen, an academyaward-winning producer, will hold a question/answer session on Wednesday. Jacquie Czerepinski, adjunct assistant professor and Norm Schroder, associate professor at Idaho State University, will present a three-part workshop entitled "Marketing Yourself." Mary Anne Adams, youth festival representative for RMT A, will present a workshop on how to audition for colleges. 'There are workshops for all, whether you be a dancer, technician or actor and even workshops on how to start a theatre.' said Mac McIntyre, theatre arts profe.s sor Nancy Melich, The Salt Lake Tribune theatre critic, will teach critic workshops. RMTA Board of Directors Grants Developer, Pamela Jamruszka Mencher will be holding a playwriting workshop.
