SU's men's and women 's cross country teams travel to Palo Alto, Calif. , for the Stanford Invitational this Saturday. The race time for the women 's 5,000 m eter is 5:25 p.m. (MD1) and 6:30 p.m. (MD1) for the men 's 8,000 meter. The race w ill be run on Lhe Stanford University Golf Course. SU w ill face ru nners from Arizona. State, Boise State , Cal-State Fullerton, Californ ia, Marquette, in-state schools Utah State and Brigham Young, Stanford and others. In all, 19 schools w ill compete in the women's race, while 16 teams w ill square off in the men's race. While the men 's team enjoyed a week off, the women 's team enjoyed the Hawaiian Islands, winning the University of Hawaii Invitational. SU swept the fi rst three spots, placed four runners jn the top five and all seve n in the top 17. It was SU's first women's title since winning the UNLV Invitational on Oct. 6, 1997. "lt was an awesome course and an awesome experience, .. Head Coach Eric Houle said. "Our team ran really well and Tam pleased with the results." Sophomore Wc-ndy Allen led the way, winrung the individual title, running the 5,000 meter race with a time of 18:29. Freshman Jandee Hood (1 8:40) and sophomore Kelly Fugal ( 18:51 ) finished second and l11ird. respectively. Freshman Rohyn Adams finished fifth ( 19 : 15) and junior MaryAnn Sehaucrhamer crossed the line sixth (1 9:24). The men's team last competed in the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. on Sept. 19 where it placed second_ After the Stanford meet, hath teams w ill have a week off to prepare for the Arizona State Invitational o n Friday, Oct. 16 , in Tempe, Ariz. Rodeo team starts season The SU rodeo team started off its year with a good performance Saturday at the Utah Valley State College and Salt Lake Community ColJege Rodeo, said Jean Reeve, rodeo team adviser. "I was very im pressed by their performance, especially the freshmen." Jason Mackelprang, Jennifer Maynard, Hayley Joe Nielson , and Todd Sorenson all p laced in the top 10 during the performance round in their events and qualified to participate in the sh ort go. "It's really good to be able to p lace four out of seven people on your team in the short go," said Reeve. Sorenson [learn roping] and Nielson [breakaway] both placed second during the short go. "This is an extremely focused group. They have the talent to take the team to nationals this year," said Reeve.
