Show New PR director natned here After a nationwide search, SUU has announced the appointment of Neal L. Cox as director of public relations/ assistant to the president. Cox was selected from 58 applicants who applied for the position. SUU President Steve Bennion said: "Neal Cox brings a splendid background to this assignment. He has served as a teacher for secondary age students for 11 years- two of those years in Samoa. For the past 15 years his professional work has been with college students in several key assignments, principally with Snow College, including director of personnel services, chair of instructional support services and Title m director, and from 1990 to 1995 as vice president of student life. " Cox graduated with a bachelor of science degree in hist0ry from Utah State University where he served in key student leadership assignments. He earned a master's degree in education at Brigham Young University and a doctorate in higher education administration at the same institution. "Neal Cox brings extraordinary experience and leadership to the position of director of public relations at SUU, an assignment which also includes serving as an assistant to the president. He grew up in the newspaper environment, the son and grandson of weekly newspaper editors in rural Utah where communication skills were valued and honed," Bennion said. "The breadth of Neal Cox's experiences with a wide variety of constituencies is remarkable. He has worked with youth, elderly, athletes, performing artists, urbanites, educators, farmers, and people of diverse racial backgrounds. Neal spent four years living in different cultures/ countries-two years in both Samoa and Japan. He is a seasoned leader, excellent communicator, and a strong advocate of students and student needs." Cox has most recently served as president of the Illinois, Chicago Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Advertising team ·does well in nationals A three-member studei1t team from SUU has placed among the top 18 of 200 college and university teams competing for national advertising awards. The team of Tcre'sa Dalton, Tyler R. Harris, and Chris Smith developed 60second television and radio spots and a full page print advertisement as part of the competition. They were also required to submit a paper explaining their advertising strategy in a campaign to focus on the responsible use of financia l credit. Dalton is a senior from Cranston, R.I., majoring in business/interior design. Harris and Smith are both communication majors who will be graduating this year. Harris is from Coalville, and Smith is from Henderson, Texas. The SUU team entered the competition as a project in an advertising copywriting class taught by Ron Cantera.
