The samples would be used by prosecutors to authenticate evidence they have been presenting to grand jurors, including hand written letters and tapes secretly made by a friend, Linda Tripp, in which Ms. Lewinsky is said to have discussed her relationship with the president. LAS VEGAS MAN CHARGED WITH SENDING DEATH THREATS TO HOWARD STERN:·A man who served six years in prison for menacing President Ford was charged with sending death threats to radio jock Howard Stem. Michael Lance Carvin, 43, of Las Vegas, was accused of sending postcards, letters and packages Howard containing explicit threats against Stem and Stern his wife, Alison, the Daily News reported - - - - - yesterday. Carvin was indicted May 4. Court papers do not mention the Stems. But the newspaper cited unidentified sources as confirming they were Carvin's targets. SICK DEFENDANT DELAYS TRIAL OF FREEMAN LEADERS: The federal trial for leaders of the Montana Freemen was delayed yesterday by the brief illness of one defendant. The ailing defendant, Cornelius John Veldhuizen was back at the Yellowstone County jail only a couple of hours after he was taken to a hospital, jail commander Capt. Dennis McCave said. Officials did not say what his illness was. The trial comes almost two years after the Freemen's 81day standoff with the FBI in eastern Montana. The 14 defendants are charged with more than 40 crimes.
