In the second game of the double header, SUU's Heidi Miller got the job done on the mound as she threw a one hitter in a complete game. Miller struck out eight and allowed four · walks on the afternoon. The Thunderbirds scored all four of their runs in the second inning. Hardy started the inning off with a triple. Southern Utah women's softball team split a double header with Mesa State College, 4-3 and 4-8 Friday afternoon. In the first game, SUU scored one run in the third and one in the fourth, but Mesa came back to score two runs of their own in the fifth. The Thunderbirds scored another run in the sixth to take the lead 3-2, but the Mavericks tied it up in the seventh. Both teams were scoreless in the eighth. The T -Birds won the game in the ninth as Canii Niko hit a triple and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Holmes was on the mound for SUU and picked up her second win of the season . Holmes went the distance, allowing nine hits while striking out three and walked no batters. Niko and Christy Burge had two hits apiece for the T -Birds, as the team had 10 total hits in the game and committed four errors. For Mesa, Jeanne Johnson took the loss allowing 10 hits. In the second gam e, each team scored three runs in the second inning. Mesa came up big in the sixth inning as they scored fo ur runs capitalizing on two SUU errors. Heidi Miller took the loss fo r the Thunderbirds. Miller went the distance, allowing 11 hits. I Freshman is·big winner· Southern Utah's victory over Sacramento State on Saturday was only part of the fun for four fans who left the Centrum with big prizes from local sponsors. Adreann Bluff, an 18-year-old freshman at SUU from Layton, Utah, won a five-day excursion to the Grand Bahamas as part of the KBRE Fan Fly Away. Bluff's selection in the Fan Fly Away was the culmination of a season-long promotion. To be eligible for Saturday's drawing for the trip, fans had to catch one of 250 Cellular One miniballs that were thrown out during the course of the basketball season. Bluff, who caught one of the balls at the Feb. 2 UC Santa Cruz game, had her name drawn out by KBRE's Matt Barton and Hermies owner Jeff Miller. Sherry Cullimore, an employee of the SUU Theater Arts Department won the second prize a cellular phone and the cost of activation. Wendy Alfaro of Adreann Bluff Cedar City was drawn out as the winner of a couch from North East Furniture. Her name was drawn from 16 individual game winners. Tennis team falls at.SJSU Two of SU's first three tennis games were postponed because of rain last weekend, but the 'Birds still managed to play one match. San Jose State beat SU 7-0 Monday. The 'Birds were held winless in five singles matches and two doubles matches to get the doughnut against SJSU. Saturday's match against Dominican College was postponed because of rain, but will be played at a later date. Sunday's contest with the University of San Francisco was also postponed because of rain, but not before USP took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Amy Hall and Tiffany Bullock got the win for SU in beating USF's May Bach and Anne Navarro 8-6. The USP match will be completed on March 29 when the two teams meet again, with the 'Birds still down by a 2-1 score.
