Concert brings new sound Concert Review By TENNIFER DURCAN JOURNAL ARTS WRITER In musically deprived Cedar City a rare event took place Monday night. T his concert for people under 40 (unlike the recent Shenandoah/Juice N ewton bash) was held in the P.E Building. That in itseli is a feat virtually unheard of in a small town such as Cedar, so we all need to take that into consideration when reviewing the three acts that performed. The opening act was SUU student Chris Glade, whom I had heard was quite good. Well, maybe it was the bad acoustics and sound in the P.E. building or maybe he's just the type of musician that works best in small groups, because Monday night was not exactly his shining moment of glory. But come on, did he really deserve to be booed? Ali Ali Oxen Free, from northern Utah, proved to be a pretty good alternative band. The featured act was also from northern Utah, Stretch Armstrong. Okay, s ka is fun music, and good ska is really fun music. Stretch Armstrong was good ska. He did have a bit of an attitude, though, especially with the security guards, who broke out in a cold sweat anytim e it got a little wild. The concert wasn't the best, but everybody seemed to be having a good time. It was really good to have something different to do, something different to listen to. In the three months that I've been here all I've h eard has been country, hip hop, and some trendy alternative stuff. It's about time concerts like this come to Cedar; they should try to get more. My main complaint would be with the moshing. Are people here really so deprived that anytime something "different" breaks out they have to mosh their brains out? Moshing is great, but there's a time and a place for it, and (sorry) this was not it. Make way for people who really enjoy the music and would like to dance. And to the people who put on this concertgreat idea, but next time, not in the P.E. Building-the sound really sucked. 1992 CHEVY S-10 PICKUP Five s~ huny, $6955 canette, ~tier 769, only... 1993 CHEVY CAVALIER RS Four door, auto, A/C, power locks, tilt, cruise ._ more, #C4631 $7600 1994 CHEVY BERETTA V-6, .u to, power llttrin.g a. bniku, $11222 !{;d::1!:·1~1:k~:~2'sw" 586-659 5 360N.MAIN• CEDARCITY THE HEARTBEAT OF SOUTHERN UTAH SINCE 1927 AA Auto 757 N. 100 E.
