Show Storytelling lVorkshops slated ncovering the hidden storyteller in each ofius will be one of the goals of two one-day workshops being offered Wednesday (July 6) and again Aug. 11 through the SUU Lectures and Special Projects Office. June Miller, who entertains patrons of the Utah Shakespearean Festival's Greenshow and who also works as a professional storyteller throughout the year in the intermountain West and southwest regions, will be the workshop instructor. "We want to motivate the hesitant and guide the willing in their storytelling," Miller says. "We will use a lively participatory format and teach the when, what, why, and how of storytelling." The workshops are offered for credit, but they can be taken by anyone purely for enjoyment, according to Marla Bingham of the lectures/special projects office. "The workshops can have many practical applications for teachers, librarians, parents, or anyone interested in discovering personal storytelling skills," Bingham points out. The Wednesday workshop will be taught all day, beginning at 9 a.m., in the Vermillion Cliffs Room of the Hunter Conference Center. The Aug. 11 workshop will be taught in the Zion Conference Rooms of the SUU Student Center and will also begin at 9 a.m. More information on the workshops is available by calling 801-586-5483. Main• 586-2345 USF backstage tours display theatre magic f you've ever wondered where the costumes and sets seen during any of the six Utah Shakespearean Festival plays are built or if you were even a little curious about how the actors move from one side of the stage to the other so quickly, then the Utah Shakespearean Festival's Backstage Tour is your answer. This popular daytime activity visits both the Adams Shakespearean Theatre and the Randall L. Jones Theatre and gives visitors an "inside look" into many of the areas that are otherwise restricted to Festival employees. The tours, which are conducted by Festival actors and technicians, change from year to year because the actors and technicians, along their points of view and personalities, change. The tour offers you a chance to visit the production areas in both theatres. It includes stops in the costume and make-up shops where you'll see the complete process a costume or makeup design undertakes before it is put on the stage; and a stop in the scene shops where you'll get a glimpse of how the massive sets are constructed. No tour would be complete without a visit to the gift shop, the one stop where all types of Festival memorabilia can be purchased. One of the most thrilling events in the tour is an unparalleled chance to walk through the tunnel underneath the Adams Theatre stage which will lead you into the Adams Theatre costume shop. This is where the actors go if they have a costume or make-up change during the show. This season the tours begin July 5 and run through September 3. The price of the tour is $6 and tickets can be purchased at either the Randall L. Jones or Adams Theatre box office. The tour takes off from the balcony of the Randall L. Jones Theatre every Tuesday through Saturday at 11 a.m. Don't miss your chance to view the Festival from an angle you may have never seen before. You'll see things that will not only astound you, but they will also make you want to visit the Festival "backstage" year after year. {: We offer more for your taste bud_s than just frozen yogurt!
