Show July 30, 1980 Sun Chronicle, Sun Times Page M The annual Roy Days Hiatorical Arts and Crafts Exhibit, under the direction of LaRae Allen will follow the theme of the festivities of Roy Days, "Reflections of You." The exhibit will be held in the Sand Ridge Junior High School, 4400 S. 2075 W. in Roy, Aug. 23. Ribbons and awards will be presented in various categories of entries including the most beautiful and original cake designs, woodworking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and handcrafts in general. An invitation is extended to people of all ages and talents, not only from Roy, but also from surrounding communities to participate in the exhibit. All items must be tagged with the name of owner and in place in the area designated for display before 9 am. Aug. 23. Some 50 handmade quilts of various material and design will be shown. The gift shop offers a variety of inexpensive cards, jewelry ceramic books snacks and soft drinks, and provides some inviting conversation areas where visitors may relax and talk with patients or staff members. The new shop is directly across the entrance hall from the administration offices. It is furnished with cabinets on one wall and glass display cases. The volunteers, all dressed alike in pink aprons, know which patients are not allowed to buy candy and other sweets because of diabetes, and which ones are allowed only limited diets for other reasons We know all our resident customers and their health situations, said Mrs Hatch. The gift shop is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p m. each day. Mrs. Hatch said the volunteer staff needs to be enlarged in order to keep the shop open in the evening hours, when many visitors come to see patients. We need more volunteers all the time and would ask anyone interested to get in touch with me at the hospital, she said The gift shop is manned by 14 volunteers in various shifts during each week.
