The Roy sophomore had Gooch worried the first 50 yards out of the blocks and thats when Gooch decided as he said, to kick it m high gear. Gooch beat him by two steps Goochs teammate, Freddie Cook, got his best start of the year and finished third in the race. Cook won the long jump event with a leap of 20 feet and 5 inches, just two inches better than his teammate, Greg Boarden, who landed at 20 feet 3 inches Jim Clearfieldite, Valentine captured first in the javelin with a toss of 165T1 which is still shy of his best throw last year, a 1759. In, what may yet prove to be the Region One battle of supremacy in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, Clearfields Tim Gooch, nipped Roy sophomore Keith Crockett for top honors. Both runners were well aware of the others history in this event. Both races were close, but Gooch claimed the gold. Roy girls defeat CHS The Royal Girls Track Team bested the Clearfield Gals 9 to 7 in first place ribbons, 8 to 5 for second place, and 7 to 5 for third place, in coasting to a team score of 77 - 54, last weekatRov. Roys Jennifer James won first place in the 100 meter H.H., in the 300 meter L H , in the 200 meter dash, and ran on the winning 440 yard relay team to spark the Royal victory. V 1 " |
