Show 'if y SUN CHRONICLE, March 17, 979, Page 2 1 EDITORIAL: Was right decision made? It will be interesting in future years to see if the council's action last Tuesday night was really in the best interest. With a 1 vote, the cuncil approved the rezoning of approximately 17 acres owned by Alan Nye from MP-- 1 to RMH-1- . This will allow for expansion of his Monte Vista Trailer Park on 1900 West. Ogden City Council and officials have expressed their displeasure that Roy would want to take this action, as it puts what they termed, higher density housing closer to the runway than what is now developed. They said they are fearful that in the event of some airplane problems in landing or taking off, the loss of life and property would be great. They advocated that the land remain zoned for manufacturing, and to establish a buffer zone around the Ogden City Airport. To this Roys Mayor Joseph Dawson stated that he had never seen a plane crash in all the years that the airport has been there. Only one councilman, Jack Seamons, indicated that he felt there was a problem and that the council should not approve the rezoning based on the safety factor. With all of the light plane crashes that happen in northern otic Utah, and other aviation problems, Roy citizens will be lucky if there is not a major catastrophe from a plane crash in future years. Although Ogden city should have expressed their opinion when the current Monte Vista Trailer Court was developed nearly five years ago, still, the expansion shouldnt have been approved based on the fact that there was already a problem there. 3-- imoftke come in and (2) There shall be a fee assessed for single family family multiple lots, dwelling properties, commercial properties, manufacturing properties, mobile home parks, and any other use of land wherein the percentage of the total area covered buildings, by asphalt, concrete or other nonporous materials may affect storm water runoff or subsurface water levels with amount the minimum payable to be at least that developing properties for storm and subsurface sewer Get results from the classified ads ready to serve y to relating WHEREAS, in order to clarify existing law the Roy City Council has deemed it necessary to amend its orto dinances relating assessment of fees for SEEE&r Be it ordained the by Roy hereby City Council of Roy City, Utah: NOW THEREFORE, payable by the single family dwelling unit assessment. So, in order to bring the city some needed tax revenue, they are now moving ahead to use up the last bit of manufacturing-zoneland and make it residential. But tlie most important problem created by the expansion is the airport safety factor. What if there is a plane crash? Will this Roy Council be responsible for their actions last Tuesday if there is great loss of property? They did what they felt was best, in the use of Nyes property and approved his ideas for expansion, but only time will tell if it was the right decision.
