Coach Wilcox has two returning starters in 6'5 Rob Thomas and 61 Steven Scholtec. The Redskins will be tabbed as county favorites this season. The Scorpions of Sand Ridge are coached by a new coach Gary Strong. The South Salt Lake County school is suffering normal growing pains in this its first year of existence. Alta was formed by taking students from Jordan High, Hillcrest and Brighton. This year's seniors had the option of completing their schooling in their old school, or transfer to the new Alta High. At least one seasoned basketball player declined to go with the new school and it had to hurt the Alta Hawks. Roy led from the opening tip and led by as many as 15 points in the lopsided contest. The Royals were out after one quarter; 7 at front half time, 7 at the three-quartat the final gun. mark and The Royals did not play one of their better games, but everybody played and Coach Smith w;as able to experiment with every conceivable combination. Mark Sindle led the Roy scoring with 15 points, followed by 13 for Fred Fernandes and 10 for Jon Nickerson. The Royals made 25 field goals to just from the 18 for Alta but were out-shcharity stripe nine to seven by the Hawks. Coach Smith had mixed emotions about the game. We did some good things, he said, and some bad. Our defense left a lot to be desired, he said in summation. The Royals were scheduled to entertain Olympus, Friday on the Royals Court. Olympus hasnt fared too well in basketball, this year but is a traditionally solid Region 3 power. Roy opens its defense of the Region 1 title Dec. 15 at Layton.
