BLAZE BISHOP which ended tacklers in the game with T H Bell in last week s game changed Clearfield made a drive to the Rov three yard line only to fumble on fourth down and one yard to go Roy quickly took over the ball and pushed to their own nine yard line but fumbled it right back to the F'aleons Johnson wasted little time in going airborne, and found Kevin Jamison in the end zone for a touch down Clearfield elected to go for a two point conversion but the pass was no good and with 4 18 left in the game, the score was 18 6 for Roy Clearfield gambled and won on an on side kick that w as recov ered on the Roy 37 yard line The Roy defense slowed them down and ran precious time off the clock but with just 42 seconds to play Johnson hit Roger Vincent on a 15 vard touchdown pass and they kicked the extra point to make the score 18 11 With time running out the F'aleons kicked another on side kick, but Roy got control of the ball and let the clock run out There were heros on both sides of the field Credit the fine Royal defense for shutting Clearfield out for three quarters and limiting them to onlv 50 yards rushing on 27 carries The Roy offense had a great day w ith 25 1 yards on 46 rushes They averaged 5 5 yards per play and especially the thud quarter Johnson is a great competitor, and vital to the Clearfield football team Kurt Bennington of Roy took a pounding at the hands of the Clear field defense Kurt averaged 7 6 yards on 14 carries to lead all rushers with 107 yards Paul Zahn carried eight times for 69 yards, Jon Hanson twelve times for 35 yards, and Fred Fer nandes ten for 32 yaids This was a first meeting between these neighbors of the new Region One Third place Roy went on to defeat West 21-- in a hard hitting ball bame in Salt Lake City, but Clearfield wasnt so fortunate They succumbed to Orem High School in a 27 0 shutout in Utah county Roy will meet tomorrow theBrighton morning at 11 00 at Rice Stadium in Salt Lake City The Lakers are through for the season 6 X FULLBACK four-poin- t JON HANSEN got a buck in the annual hunt last month Jon deer returned home in time to help his team beat Clearfield for third UtaFi place in Region I Season surprises Utahs 1977 eleven day general deer hunt is history, with the season producing very few surprises for Division of Wildlife Resources personnel who had predicted a harvest somewhat better than that of last year Data collected to date indicates that speculation as to the availability of deer was correct, and success was much improved in the northern half of the state, while improving slightly or holding steady in the south , Division biologists had predicted that last years mild winter would have a positive effect on deer herd preseason populations, and most hunters reported seeing more deer this year than in recent previous seasons Early reports indicated that most of the the animals harvested were relatively young, with large bucks uncommon |
