The $7.9 million Davis North Medical Center was dedicated in ceremonies conducted Saturday morning, Sept., 25. The facility, which covers 90,000 sq. feet on 23 acres, is located at 1600 W. Antelope Drive in Layton. Following public tours, the staff of the new hospital began a month of intensive orientation and training. The Davis North Medical Center is the 65th hospital owned and operated by Humana Inc., of Louisville, Kentucky, the second largest hospital corporation in the country. It will be an economic generator for the area providing 200 jobs $nd paying state sales tax and .local property tax. It will use local agencies for laundry services, banking, housekeeping supplies, office supplies and maintenance materials. There will be approximately 18 physicians on staff initially and it is expected an additional 10 doctors will follow in the coming year. Dean Holman, former assistant director of the Utah State Hospital Association, has been named hospital administrator. Mr. Holman, after 21 years, retired from the U.S. Air Force Medical Service where he was a lieutenant colonel and had been director of medical administration responsible for staff activity and overall supervision of all administrative functions for 13 hospitals in the Far East. He received his masters degree in hospital administration from Baylor University and his B.A. and Doctorate of Optometry degrees from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. Serving as Assistant Administrator is Ellen Schiffner, previously in a management related position at McKay-De- e Hospital in Ogden. Miss Schiffner has a B.A. in accounting from Carrol College in Helena, Montana, and a Masters in Hospital and Health Administration. Four staff physicians and 10 civic leaders were chosen to serve as the Board of Trustees for the Davis North Medical Center. They will be responsible for insuring that health care needs in the community are met and continuous quality care is received at the hospital. 25 45 3 6 FT.
