Our baggers try to follow a bagging standard that makes sure every bag is properly filled. And, they'll be happy to make any special adjustments to fit your personal needs. If you're handicapped, living alone, have a health problem or stairs to climb, and want your groceries distributed in smaller amouts among two or three bogs instead of one, please tell your bagger before he starts to load your groceries and he'll be happy to accommodate you. It's our policy at Smith's for baggers to carry out all big orders and those where a customer needs special help. The groceries are always placed in the back seat of the car on the floor unless you request differently. And, please no tipping we re more than happy to help. In case our method of bagging is of interest to you, let me briefly explain: We start at the bottom of the sack with a solid base of cans and heavy items. Next, we build up the sides of the sack with cereal boxes, milk cartons, etc. In the center of the bag we place glass jars, but try to avoid putting glass on glass. We fill in with gum, candy, etc. as a cushion. On the top we add perishables and crushables such as eggs, bread, etc. Meats and frozen packages are placed in plastic bags just before bagging to avoid dripping. (We re trying to keep frozen foods out of the bottom of the bags.) We'd welcome any ideas you might have on how we can improve our bagging procedure. If you notice us slipping on our bagging standards, please give me a call on the red phone. We want to be your favorite store.
