Learning To Read Your Electric Meter Can Help You Use Energy More MiselyS A number of our Utah Power customers have asked how they can read their own meters so they can monitor their success at saving electricity. Thats a very good idea. Electric meters are precision measuring devices. They record, in units called kilowatt hours, how much electricity you use. One kilowatt hour (kwh) is 1,000 watts of electricity consumed for one hour, or the power required to burn a light bulb for 10 hours. 100-wa- tt Easy as 1, 2, 3 Meters are simple to read. Here are the steps: 1. Read the dials and write down the figures from right to ft, because thats how your power usage is recorded. Some meters have a fifth dial which measures tens of thousands. As indicated, some of the dials turn clockwise, others 1 Your meter has either 4 or 5 dials. Each dial has 10 numbers and a pointer. The pointers turn very, very slowly, from smaller to larger numbers as electricity is used. Note that all the pointers do not turn in the same direction. counter-clockwis- low-inco- households. Food Stamps are coupons that are used like money for the purchase of food. Lower income families, persons and elderly, can purchase food stamps by paying a sum of money based on family size and net monthly income. The value of the food stamps you receive will be greater than the amount of money you pay. You can spend the food stamps like money at grocery stores. 2. Who is eligible for food stamps? To be eligible for food stamps, you must meet national standards for income and resources. Mrs. Smith also called attention to eight brief Mormon vignettes entitled, Women Who Helped Build America. She said that the Relief Society observance of the Bicentennial w'ill be culturally, educationally and service oriented. The cultural activities are choir presentation, family history writing projects and holding open house with missionaries and auxiliaries.
