If you were running a utility like Utah Power, youd be faced with the responsibility for meeting the growing demands for electricity. And the only way to meet this requirement is to build new generating plants. That means youd need money... lots of it. Utah Power would like to talk to you about where they get the money to build needed plants. While customer revenues pay for operation and maintenance of the companys facilities and a return on invested money, most of the money for new power plants comes from selling stocks and bonds to investors. And these investors expect a reasonable profit on their investment. That means Utah Power must run an efficient, profitable operation so it can attract the investor money it needs to meet future power demands. You see, in just ten years the demand for electric power has doubled in Utah Powers service area. And, if Utah Power is to meet the level of demands estimated for 1978, they will need close to a billion dollars for new plant construction. And, since youre a customer, you have a right to know that the money to build the new plants Utah Power & Light customers will need comes from investors, not rate payers, and that investors expect a reasonable profit on their investment. beautiful the weather. The AFS Program is extremely rewarding to the host family as well as Mrs. being beneficial to the student, Oblock added A family may: acquire new perspectives about another culture, help a student discover the life of a community and a nation, experience the fun of a new and continuing friendship Aside from food cost, and possibly some small incidental expenses, the host family incurs no debt in hosting a student. The local chapter raises an annual fee which when supplemented by whatever contributions the student can afford, covers AFS program expenses. AFS also extends a monthly allowance directly to the student to cover incidental personal expenses. The organization makes sure host families will not have to pay medical bills for students. As a matter of policy, AFS extends medical coverage to its students. Host families may take a monthly tax deduction in accordance with provisions made by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. So there is very little expense to a host family, Mrs. Oblock stressed. What is really needed is something that cannot be love and attention that every bought young person wants in a home situation. While many families participating in the AFS program include children who are high school students, any family is eligible to serve as a host. Families interested in participating in the AFS experience are urged to contact Mrs. Oblock, 2070 W. 5850 S., phone 6 days or contact evenings or AFS officials at Roy High. 825-565- 7 825-978- at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
