AnArAil 1 A (I Avtaneiisn AA Thursday, September 7, 1972 EB TO FRIDAY MASS MEET Coons!! halts aotTpor; plans until Sopt. 21 special meeting was held Tuesday morning with the Ogden City and they have agreed to freeze all future action until their council regular meeting, Sept. 21. However, they must advertise for bids, but they have assured the citizens association that no bids will be let until they can meet with the citizens Sept. 21 and determine whether alternative action should be taken. A Council ROY All area citizens are invited to a special mass meeting Friday evening in the Roy High auditorium to discuss the pros and cons of the proposed Ogden Airport ex- I.EGENU tension. b The meeting, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., has been planned by the Roy Citizens Association, a group of Roy citizens, approved by the city council, working for a greater Weber County and Roy City. The main concern of the association now is working to make the c- -r munity aware of the facts concerning the Airport Expansion Program. S.O.S. signs and cards have been printed to help explain the purposes of the group and the problems they are trying to overcome. Several terms have been applied to the S.O.S. theme including Save Our Schools, Stop See Our Side, and Save Ogden Spiawl, The group explains that Our Surroundings. the SPRAWL is the extension of the Ogden Municipal Airport runway involving low level airflight over P.oy and adjoining communities. They are most concerned with the fact that the extension of the runway and flight path will concentrate low level airflights directly over several schools, many homes and churchs. Leaders of the citizens group pointed out that they are not opposed to the industrial expansion of Weber County. They wish to encourage and support all worthwhile enterprise . . . providing it doesnt endanger or destroy the tranquility and welfare of others. They feel that the noise, air pollution and because aircraft may be flying at dangerous levels, which increases the possibilities of an air crash, should be strong points against the proposed expansion on the proposed route. Concerned citizens wish to find another, less populated air route for the propsed expansion or to have the program relocated to unpopulated areas. The citizens group feels that local taxpayers should stand up and voice their opinions of the proposal because in the end they are the ones who finance these projects through state and federal grants. Not only are they looking at the proposed expansion this year, but what may happen 20 years from now as the greater Ogden area continues to grow. Local citizens are invited to attend the Friday nigh meeting and hear the issue fully explained.
