Miss J World-Uta- h competition slated j The tenth annual Miss World Utah competition for 1971 will be held Sept. 10 at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City. The -- ; ) - - hours for the event are from 7 to 10 p.m. The announcement of this years contest was made by Mrs. Dorothy Mitchell of Paris - All Models, Executive Director of the Miss World contest for the states of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. She stated that applications will be accepted for the Utah competition until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9. A short program is presented at each school which shows through the use of car. 25. The Miss World program is not a talent contest but directs its concern to beauty and intelligence. The winner of the Miss World Utah title will join the winners from the other fifty states at the Miss World -U.S.A. judging at Hampton, Va. Sept. 27 through Oct. 2. The winner of the national title will then have the honor of the United representing States m the international competition in London, England. One of the worlds oldest and most prestigeous beauty competitions the Miss World event is over 20 years old and now draws contestants from nearly 70 countries and from five continents. 1970s Miss World - Utah was Miss Carolyn Whitney. First and second runners up were Miss Janice Prince and Miss Peggy Alledridge. characters and a short play the advantages of drinking milk and eating the right foods to help maintain a healthy body. The Princess and her attendants take part in the skit and each one emphasizes various nutritive aspects of milk and dairy products. The children are taught a song developed by the American Dairy Association, THERES A NEW YOU COMING EVERYDAY which tells of the bodys need to replace three billion cells every 60 seconds and that one of the best foods to help your body make the change is milk. and teachers' have applauded the program and Principals students everywhere have ex-- ; pressed their approval by not wanting the girls to leave at the conclusion. The program is short and fast moving which keeps the attention of students and does not distract from the curriculum. This years tour with the State Princess and attendants will visit the counties of: Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah, Davis, Weber, Box Elder, Cache, Juab, Sanpete, Sevier, Beaver, Millard, Piute, Wayne, Iron, and Washington. They will be accompanied by the Utah Dairy Commission Manager, G. Kent Hendrickson and State Dairy Wives President, Lulu Jensen. v The September meeting of the Aprender Guild was held at the home of Mrs. Ed White. The hostesses were Mrs. Ed White and Mrs. Levi Parker. The program committee was Mrs. Glen Jackson and Mrs. Ezra Thompson. President Mrs. Max Rich conducted the meeting. The club members enjoyed a trip to Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Scott L. Pitcher showed pictures and told of the many different animals, the way the people lived. This is why Australia is a very interesting country to visit. Mr. Scott L. Pitcher spent two years living in Australia so he could tell alot about the history and the most interesting places. Miss Mitchell was graduated from Altamont High School, where she served as studentbody president 'and cheerleader."' The bride elect is a junior at Utah State University, majoring in accounting. Her fiance was graduated from Roy High School. He was state FFA president and state officer. Mr. Parker served an LDS mission in Denmark, and is now a junior at Utah State e. Miss Pulsipher was graduated from Ogden High School and LDS Seminary, and from Utah State University with a B.S. degree in education, and the LDS Institute. Mr. Ross was graduated from Ben Lomond High School and is attending Weber State College and LDS Institute. He is employed in Clearfield. The couple plans to be married Oct. 7 in the Logan LDS Temple. Couple visits Roy, open house held. ROY Mr. and Mrs. James Scott Davis are visiting at the home of Mr. Davis parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Davis, 4520 S. 2075 W Roy. This is the young couples first visit to Roy sinde they were married March 6. Mrs. Davis is the former Margaret Lynn McEwen, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.A. McEwen of Atlanta, Ga. An open house was held in their honor Tuesday evening at the home of his parents. The couple resides in Marietta, Ga., where Mr. Davis is school. He attending pre-me- d was recently discharged from the Navy where he had been stationed at Marietta for three years. Announcement is made by Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Sharp, 101 N. Carr, formerly of Ogden and now of Idaho Falls, was married Aug. 28 in Idaho Falls to Dr. Ronald John, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ora John of Portage, Utah. Following the marriage they were honored at a reception at the home of the bride. A rehearsal dinner was given at the spacious Idaho Falls West-ban- k Motel by Mr. and Mrs. Ora formerly of Idaho Falls and Ogden, and now of Salt Lake City where Mr. Carr is an architectural worker. Their daughter Marilee was one of the bridesmaids, and the brides brother-in-laand sister Mr. and Mrs. Steve Walker of Colorado Springs were best man and matron of honor. John. The bride attended the University of Utah two years and then graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in physical therapy. She has been working in rehabilitation in Santa Barbara. The bridegroom received his doctorate degree in education at the Utah State University in Logan. He became assistant director of Devereaux schools in Santa Barbara following a fellowship there in clinical child psychology. He is founder and president of Hillside Living Center in Logan, and recently was named president of the Victoria Ranch School in Everett, Washington, where the couple will reside.
