I know it doesnt apply to many of you, but those who read this article might assist by passing it on to some of the young people or old, who are guilty or of contemplating modifying their vehicle. Title 41 Chapter 6 article 148.30 reads: It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle on any highway or road within the state of Utah when such vehicle has been mechanically altered or changed to cause the lowest part of the body or chassis to be closer to the ground than it was at the time it was manufactured. The previsions of this section shall not apply to the following vehicles: (a) Implements of husbandry, (b) farm tractors, (c) road machinery, and (d) road rollers. NOW THE CHANGE The law will now read: It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle on any highway or road within the state of Utah when such vehicle has Roy City Patrolman been mechanically altered or changed to cause the lowest part of the body or chassis to be closer to the ground or to increase or decrease the distnace between the ground and the lowest part of any bumper or any other similar impact absorbing equipment. The question has already been asked if this means that the tires cannot be over-size- d which may alter the distances. No! This does not mean tires, they are not a mechanical change. It has reference to when the vehicle is dismantled and reassembled in a different manner or an entirely new front end or rear end assembly of ones own designs, installed or spring separates inserted. The law is designed to eliminate the radical and ridiculous alterations that obviously render the vehicle unsafe. This addition to the law and those changes and additions published last week became effective May 11, 1971. Next week I will discuss air pollutioii control devices. |
