Writing contest seeks entries A new book length manu- script contest for regional literature will be among divi- sions offered in the League of Utah Writers Original Writing Contest for 1971. Other new contests will include short regional literature, narrative poetry and television and film script competition, according to Betty G. Spencer, state president. Unpublished division and the Young Writers Contest is open to anyone living in Utah. Paid up League members may also enter published division and special contest divisions. The Youth Contest is open to those high school age or younger, with prizes to be awarded in three divisions: high school, junior high school, and elementary school. division inUnpublished cludes short story written for adult, short story written for teenagers, short story written for children, articles, short plays, serious poetry, and light (humorous) verse. All of the above entries must be unpublished and accompanied by a reading fee. Published division includes all above named, with each League member eligible to enter one entry in each category. Special contests will include the Raymond W. Taylor Book Length Award, short regional literature, L. Paul Roberts Poetry Foundation A ward and narrative poetry. -- A brief criticism will be given by judges, according to alter L. Maughan, general contest chairman. Cash will be presented in unpublished division, with gold Quills or diamonds, plus book awards, presented in published division.
