Show SOKIE ACRE homesteads COUNTY salt lake city utah april 19 1909 to the bd tor sir As you are amaie the last con gress an act allowing citizens of utah to file homestead engnes upon lands which cannot be irrigated and 01 which there is not a sufficient supply of water suitable for domestic purposes as would make continuous residence posa ble these homesteads cannot exceed acres lib extent before these lands can become sub eject to entry under the provisions of this act they must be examined by the field service of the land office and duly designated as dry farm lands by the secretary of the this will require considerable work on tie part of the special agents of jhb general land office who now have their headquarters 11 utah it is the desire of the interior department to select a part of these lands in each county of the slate that all citizens may have an equal opportunity to avail themselves of the benefits of this new law in order that the general land onca may be possessed of all possible anfor matio i concerning lands of the charac ter described and provide for immedi ate examination of the same I 1 would take it as a personal favor if every citizen of your county having knowledge of any general area of surveyed land suitable for successful dry farming which must be non mineral non irrigable unreserved and ed and not containing merchantable timber would communicate directly v ith me giving me he townships and ranges in which said land is situated immediately on receipt of such 11 formation steps will be taken to ex amine and report on same that your citizens may avail themselves of the provisions of this act the present sea u if they so daire active and immediate i on the part of our citizens will ate the work and greatly aid in bring arg about ane results so much desired not only by the state of utah but also by the national government all communications should be addi ess ed to the ened respectfully GEORGE E HAIR box chief field divisions S utah gt land office |
