Some are born great; some achieve greatness; and some have greatness thrust upon them. Shakespeare. It is proper to respect and admire fellow mortals who forward the lot of mankind and to commemorate their great accomplishments. Their personality is but the outgrowth of the habits they form. A person, in short is what he is by reason of the more or lest unified aggregate oi his Now hamls, apparently, can be changed and shaped. There it no mystery about them; for we have all watched habits grow in our selves; and have ail. with more or less success, discontinued certain of our habits. , I These may be called hubits, rising habits, up on tuno, work linbils, social habits. Fiery one has a system of work habits thoroughness; accuracy, slovenliness; passing tho buck; watching the clock; consumer habits v paving cash; running up accounts; keeping a budget; bodily habits (clean face and hands; daily bath; neat clothes; or the opposite of these); play habits (play fair; generosity to opponents; cheerful losing), moral habits (truthfulness; lying, dependability; loy i'lty ; emotional habits (irritability; meanness; sympathy; habit-syste- - coiuradsbip); etc. So, the raw material of our human nature is shaped that each individual differ s from every other, and the shaping is within our power. It Is sometimes necessary to Influence certain persons; io change them, in short. They may be our children, our husbands or wives, our pupils, our fellow workers, or new found friends. We wish to build up a stronger character in our child; to alter what is aisagreeable in this or that Individual's personality; to make this Ur that person more responsible. This Is no childs play. It means, at the least, that we must under stand rather thoroughly what people are and how they can be induced to alter the accustomed, oftimes "ingrained manner or their lives. These accomplishments, histories tell us, have been achieved by great men and women. .. Let's think together next week.
