Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Sports WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 17, 2003 Eight Cowboys named to All State football teams 2-- A -- By Dennis Brunner Eight Kanab Cowboy football players were named to the 2-- A football teams last week by the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News. Cowboy seniors Kelly Brown,' Cody Brunner, Jesse Fitting and Justin Frost, along with juniors Brandon Brown and Evan Orton, were named to the First team. Senior Matt Rhees and junior Sterling Glover were named to the second team. Standout linebacker Kelly Brown, the Cowboys leading tackier with 66 solos and 37 assists, was named to the first team on both the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News squads. He had 6.5 QB sacks and five tackles for losses, along with six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two blocked kicks. Kelly was a wingback on the potent Wing-- Cowboy offense, gaining 513 yards on 78 carries for a 6.58 average. He ran for six touchdowns and caught one. Cody Brunner was named to the first team on the Salt Lake Tribune as a defensive back and the second team on the Deseret News as a quarterback. Brunner, who played outside linebacker half the year and safety for the other Jialf, was the teams second leading tackier with 56 solos, including three for losses. He ran for six touchdowns, passed for four more, returned an interception for a score and had a 91 yard kickoff return for another TD. Jesse Fitting was named to the first team on the Tribune as an offensive lineman and second team on Deserets list as a defensive lineman. Besides playing both wrays, Jesse was the teams punter and kicked off, basically playing every down of every game. He had 26 solo tackles and nine assists, with six QB sacks and five tackles for a loss. Justin F rost was named to the first team on the Deseret News squad and second team on the Tribs as a defensive lineman.
