Because of that history, we like to celebrate and honor some of the people who made pictures here and recognize the contributions that they made to the area. This is the fourth year the event has been held and attendance is expected to more than double the towns population. musical performances by Michael Martin Murphey, performances, cowboy poetry, Dutch oven cookoffs, a wagon train, mountain man displays, clogging contests, fiddle contests, an arts and crafts show, square dancing, quilt making, and a western parade. We are expecting 4,000 to 5,000 people, Browning says. It has really grown in popularity and people come from all over the country. Kanab is home to about 3,000 residents year round. The annual Western Legends Round-up- : was started by local enthusiasts Robert Houston and Dennis Judd and is run entirely by volunteers, who clock thousands of hours of community service during the event. The local residents came up with the idea to celebrate our western movie heritage and start our Little Hollywood Walk of Fame, Browning says, referring to plaques displayed in downtown Kanab that honor movie stars, producers and directors who filmed in Utah. Kanabs Little Hollywood Walk of Fame currently features Ronald Reagan, Ben Johnson, Dale Robertson, Tom Mix, the cast of Gunsmoke, Howard Koch and Fay Hamblin. This year we are adding three new names: Earl Bellamy, Robert Fuller and Dale Evans, bringing our total to 10, Browning says. A new addition to the roundup this year is a film festival featuring movies and television episodes that were shot in the wilds around Kanab. The film festival will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with movies being shown in the Kanab Theater.
