As adults it is our responsibility to help prepare all young people to make a contribution to our community and society as a whole, reads the mission statement of the Kanab Youth Recreation Center. The new rec center is a result of some dedicated individuals who care deeply about the youth of our community. To begin using the youth center, parents need to come in and sign a con- sup- port. Our main focus is respect, explained Vista volunteer and youth center director Cheryl Brown. We want the kids to treat one another with respect, as well as treat property with respect. The rec center will offer sports equipment, classes, hobbies and activities for area youth. In addition, there will be community, projects and events for youth to participate in. Two adults will staff the center at all times. These people will be crucial to the goals of the rec center. We feel that its important that the kids are around positive adults, explained Brown. And volunteers are needed. All we are asking, is that adults commit to one time block a month.
