| Show LIBRARY BOARD TAKES ACTION A meeting of the brigham city library board was wag held last monday moning monlong lor for the purpose ot of discussing I 1 the latest reply to a letter addressed to the carnegie library commission asking for the reconsideration of 0 this cites case with respect to getting an appropriation for a library building the statement of 0 the carnegie commission was to the effect that brigham city according to her population Is entitled to with the usual provision that the city contribute the site bite and raise by taxation or otherwise each year one tenth of the total amount for general maintenance it will be remembered that the commission proffered some time ago and the city asked for upon the recommendation of prominent library authorities in the state at the fa fall 11 election two years ago the people voted to be taxed extra in order to raise the 2000 for the first years maintenance but when the reply came and was the amount mr carnegie felt should satisfy brig balg ham city his proffer was rejected tor for the time being since that time some correspondence has been taken up in the matter with the result that the commission finally declare that the first offer will be increased to and all at the meeting of the library board last monday morning it was unanimously voted to accept accept this offer and the board appointed A aa M M cirill a ME to wait iimori city council next friday evening to appraise the council of the action 0 of the library board and recommend the offer of the commission be accepted that the council will take favorable action is confidently anticipated so that it is almost a sure gone conclusion on that brigham city Is to have a new public library the matter of the site lias has also been considered and the library board will recommend that the city tender the east end of city park which will give the building a frontage on first east street if that arrangement suits the city council then the present building will be removed as soon as the new one is completed and the spot now occupied by the libary building will be converted into a grass plot if favorable action is taken by the council it is very likely ly that work on the library will III begin this summer |
